See More: announcements,
Google has recently changed the structure of Gmail so that newsletters and other messages from businesses are being filtered under a special tab called Promotions.
If you want to continue receiving your SparkPeople newsletters in your regular Inbox, you have two choices:
  1. Change the delivery options for SparkPeople messages. To do this, you'll need to follow a simple, 4-step process.

         a. Click on the Promotions tab at the top of the Gmail page.
         b. Find a message from SparkPeople.
         c. Drag the message from the Promotions tab to the Primary tab.
         d. You will then get a pop-up message stating, "The conversation has            been moved to Primary. Do this for future messages from                                mailer@sparkpeople.com?" Click on Yes.

  2. Turn off the new Gmail Inbox tabs completely. To do this, you'll need to change your settings by clicking on the wheel icon at the top right of your screen.

         a. Choose Configure Inbox.

         b. Deselect all categories to go back to your old inbox. (Make sure there      are no check marks in any of the boxes.) Now Gmail will function like it          always did with all messages appearing in your Inbox.

Whether you choose to make either of these changes or not, you'll still receive messages and newsletters from SparkPeople, they'll just show up under the Promotions tab. But it will certainly be easier to stay up-to-date on your team activities and get the latest articles from SparkPeople if you set them to go straight to your main Inbox using the simple steps above.

I had already set up a SparkPeople label and a filter to leave them out of spam and label "SparkPeople", so I could read and hit archive. If I had to archive a lot, due to lack of time, I add a star on the emails that I have read and claimed my sparkPoint. So when this so-called "improvement" showed up, I put up with it for awhile, but then eventually turn those tabs off ("Promotion" "Social" "Update" - SparkPeople fits all of those and more - thus, they still have the label I originally set it up for!). - 8/10/2013   11:53:32 PM

Useful information. Fortunately, Spark provides effective tools for controlling what email each of us receives from SparkPeople. I don't get my Spark messages via Google, but I am grateful for the reminder that I can change the Google filters so that things I do wish to see go to my inbox. Using the new Google tabs does require a change in routine to actually look at the other categories, but it is nice to keep important stuff from being buried in promotions. - 8/9/2013   8:24:01 AM

Even though my tabs are turned off - I'm still not receiving the Best of SparkPeople. :( - 8/6/2013   10:28:47 AM

Thanks for the information. I don't have a problem with the new way except for having to get rid of all the extra advertising now. Before it was just on the sides. - 8/5/2013   2:05:53 PM

I hate the new Gmail inbox! I found I was losing messages and forgetting about them completely, so I've removed all the tabs and gone back to how things were before. - 8/5/2013   11:06:11 AM

Kudos on giving the step-by-step for those who might need the help! When I saw what gmail did... I quickly reverted to the everything-into-inbox 'old' method... that is for me much more time-saving. - 8/3/2013   10:31:14 PM

Thank you! I don't like the new Gmail tabs. I will say that what is in the Promotions tab is large easily deleted, but not Sparkmails! Not sure if I will completely revert to the old format or just move my Sparkmails to primary. My husband (not on Spark) hates the format completely. He will be happy to know how to fix it.

    Thanks again! - 8/3/2013   6:48:12 PM

I have it as Important in my own gmail account instead of promotions. I think I will prefer my sparkmails to enter a different area like that. It is easier for me though. - 8/3/2013   12:23:46 PM

I left my display as comfortable so everything goes into my inbox. I don't have the promotions tab that's mentioned in the article. - 8/2/2013   7:28:15 PM

Unfortunately neither of these options work if you use a mobile device like a phone or tablet. Google does not let you access the normal mail site and shunts you into the mobile version where you do not have these tabs or options. So for me all my SP mails are "lost" since I do not regularly use a traditional computer to access SP or my e-mail accounts. - 8/2/2013   3:31:53 PM

I am inflexible and hate(!) the new gmail tabs. I turned them off and have been very happy with the decision. I still use folders and manually sort/file my messages. - 8/2/2013   1:07:57 PM
