Poll: What Is Your Favorite Healthy Winter Breakfast?

By , SparkPeople Blogger
Does your breakfast change with the seasons? In the summertime, I'm a cold cereal or a almond butter-and-banana toast kind of gal, but as soon as the temperature drops, I eat oatmeal every morning.

Topped with a handful of chopped nuts (almonds, pecans or walnuts), some dried cranberries or raisins, a bit of ground flax seed and a teaspoon of cinnamon, this hearty breakfast keeps me going until lunch.

What's your favorite healthy breakfast in wintertime?

Are you an oatmeal fan, like I am? Are you partial to pancakes and waffles? What about eggs? What's your go-to breakfast? Share your favorite start-the-day meal.

For me, a great breakfast start with protein - eggs, poached, scrambled, over easy, with a slice of Dave's Killer Bread toasted and a sausage patty or a couple slices of bacon. Yummmm Report

I eat oatmeal with a half scoop of whey protein in the winter. In the summer, I hate to heat up the house so I switch to cooler foods. I am planning to take out my dusty blender (haven't used it in many years) and try some healthy smoothies this year, if it ever warms up around here. Report

Thank you for the healthy ideas you gave me to add to my oatmeal in the winter & in the summer, well your suggestion of banana nut bread was awesome.

Thank You..........

I have one zucchini, 3 mushrooms, green onions, minced garlic, flaxmeal, and leftover veggies, brown a little bit, add 1/2 cup egg subs. or 1/2 cup egg whites, add hot salt or chipotle salsa, grated parmasan on top for breakfast almost every day that I'm home. Hot cereal leaves me hungry after half an hour, and diabetic husband can't eat hot or cold cereal because they shoot his blood sugars up like no body's business, a big no no for him, no matter how much fiber the ads say is in them. Report
I usually eat oatmeal because it fills me up until lunch, I make my own instant oatmeal packages- 3/4 cup of regular oatmeal and several shakes of cinnamon and/or cloves/and/or pumpkin pie spice per snack bag. I just dump the baggie into a big cereal bowel, add water to completely cover the oatmeal and microwave 2 and a half minutes. I let it sit in the microwave until all the water is absorbed ( about 5-10 min.) add a fruit (raspberries are super YUM!) and what a great breakfast. I even have a pack or two in my desk if I miss breakfast or need a filling snack. Occasionally I have cream of wheat cooked in milk, and once a week I have poached egg on toast. Report
