Jaycie : Success Story

Jaycie had gained a few pounds over the last 10 years, but most of the weight came after the birth of her first child. She was very tired at night and didn't want to get up early in the morning. She didn't have the energy to play with her new baby. When she stopped breastfeeding, Jaycie decided it was time to "take charge" of her body again.

Jaycie started measuring her portions and calculating her days' meals in advance. Sticking to that plan was important for her. She used to drink soda, which was replaced by water. Breakfast used to be a bagel or pastries, but now Jaycie eats more whole grains and protein. She says she used to be afraid of fats, but has learned how to incorporate them into a healthy diet. "For years, I used to eat low-fat foods, but found they made me hungry because they usually contained more sugar. Now I eat good fats as part of a healthy diet."
Jaycie also started a regular exercise program of walking and yoga which has improved her flexibility and muscle tone. She is even thinking about becoming certified as a yoga instructor.

Jaycie used the Nutrition Tracker to help plan her meals and keep track of her calories. She appreciated that the SparkPeople strategy allowed her to be flexible in what she could eat. Jaycie also received support from groups on the Message Boards, and relied on the Resident Experts to answer questions and make suggested changes to her program.

One of the motivation techniques Jaycie read about on the site was to have a tangible goal. She chose the physical goal of fitting into her wedding dress, which was too tight. Now it fits better than it did on her wedding day!
Jaycie has more energy to actively play with her son instead of just watching him play. Her weight loss has also improved her relationship with her husband, because now she has more energy to devote to him when their son goes to bed. She was excited to put away all of her post-pregnancy clothes and bring out her old clothes that she almost donated, thinking she would never fit into them again. Now they fit, and she’s so happy with the changes she has made!
