I am an atheist. My husband and three children are as well. Great to find like minded people! Unfortunately my son just lost a close friend because his mother thought his atheism was contagious - LOL! The 11 yr old boy brought a bible to school and told my son that he was going to hell but could be "forgiven". My son is one of the sweetest kids you will meet and now this boy and his mother are insisting he is a "bad influence". I thought Christians were supposed to "love one another"? My atheist son would never turn away a friend because of his/her beliefs. So sad that we can't live in a society that respects differences of opinion/belief more!

Although I was raised in the church and spent a good part of my adult life in the church, I have reached the point where I am spiritual but not religious. I'd like to think that there's something out there but I don't find it anymore in organized religion. I'm not sure if that makes me agnostic or an iconoclast.

It's such a shame some of you feel that you have to keep your beliefs (or lack thereof) secret. I can't imagine having to live anywhere like that - at least in the UK it's perfectly normal not to be religious! I'm always a bit surprised when I find out that people do go to church, to be honest, I didn't know any church families when I was growing up so it isn't the norm for me. I do know a few Christians now, with faith to varying degrees, some take it very seriously and are involved with a church all the time, some just go a couple of times a year or for special occasions.

I actually live with a Christian, it keeps life interesting!

I'm not an atheist but my hubby is. I however was raised to believe that all peoples beliefs are valid even those who are atheists. If you are interested you could check out my hubbies blog http://mentalbrushfire, and listen to the song everything is holy now. I think you might like it.

I was also brought up with exposure to many different religions and I found none of them believable enough to practice so I became an atheist pretty early on. I tend to keep it to myself as well, especially since I moved to Texas.

I also consider myself more "spiritual" than "religious" -- and am also the product of an upbringing that exposed me to several different religions. I realized very early in life (like 5 years old) that the various religions were developed by people trying to explain things and create an orderly society -- and not they weren't necessairly "factual" accounting of existence. When you are thinking that stuff at 5 years old ... it kind'a separates you from organized religion pretty quick.

But I usually keep it to myself to avoid unpleasantness with my friends, family, and co-workers.

Glad you made this post!
I'd definitely consider myself more 'spiritual' than 'religious' -- comes from having a mother who practiced Shintoism, a father who was a Methodist, multiple friends who are Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, Atheist, Agnostic, and my own exploration of Hinduism!
I hope you post daily!

yep, I'm an atheist. Always have been, always will be.

I wouldn't post on the 'walking with God' thread as it's nothing to do with me if that helps people get through this, we are all here to support each other not go and start debates/arguments on other people's threads. I do enjoy a good discussion on it all if it's appropriate, but I didn't think so on there. :-)

I live with a Christian though and after a couple of years we learned it was best to just not even start talking about it!

lol! I am agnostic myself

the best day of your life is the one you decide your life is your own. No apologizes or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours, you alone are responsible for the quality of it.

I didn't see any "I don't believe in God" posts on that "Are you walking with God" board, so I thought I'd ask. Any of you aethist? How about agnostic? How about you have religious beliefs but you just don't care anymore...what's that called? lol
