Blueskies - Thx for the comment! Just trying to keep perspective before I get discouraged! But I feel so much better and so I don\t think I would stop just cause the scale isn't being friendly! LOL! Thanks again!

DESIRE2BE1- If you are strength training you could be building muscle at the same rate you are burning fat. So yes you may not go down. Muscle weighs more then fat. So gaining muscle can make the scale not move. Dont get to discouraged!

JAYDEE - I'm in that same boat! Feel like I had a great workout week but the scale isn't co-operating! However I'm seeing lots of changes in my body! Will the muscle gained or developed out weigh what small amounts of fat I've burned?? Just trying to set my expectations so that I'm not dissapointed! This next week is gonna be huge as I weigh in and take my second mth measurents next friday! I'm so anxious! I too need to lost 25 more lbs by June. Any tips to get there??? I'm currently doing the 28 day bootcamp challenge and hitting the gym for cario. Thanks for any advice!!!

So I am at 153.5 this morning. While it is more then what I was 2 weeks ago I am actually down 3 lbs of the 4.5 I gained last week. I am hoping next week will be another great week and I continue this downward spiral :).

Thanks good luck cant wait to see your great results!! What are you doing for yourself right now? I just started the 8 week rookie running program I am following that but the walking more just to get added calorie burn. My running days are m.w.f then t.th I do kettlebell and will possibly do 20 min cardio just to get that added calorie burn! on saturdays and my running days I also plan on doing ab work!

Down another .4 lbs this morning :) So I am almost I think back to where i was before everything went down hill last week ( even though for a good reason) I still feel guilty. But I am getting back and hopefully I will continue straight through where I was and keep going down. I really want to make it into the 140s before the end of march!

From TODAY, March 5, 2012, I have EIGHTY EIGHT days to lose 26 pounds. 88 Days. I'm going to lose 26 pounds by June 1st if it KILLS me.

Well, not really if it kills me. Cause then the whole weight loss thing would be pointless. :)

Ah, well, it's weigh-in day. Didn't lose this week, and in fact gained a smidge (last week 144, this week 144.5), but I've burned a heck of a lot of calories and kept up with my workouts so . . . come on body, catch up already! Hoping next week will be better for me, and that everyone is on track to meet their goals!

Ok for starting tomarrow (March 1) I have come up with a challenge for myself. I wrote out all the workouts I want to accomplish and on what days to do them. Hopefully this will keep me on track to get up and go do them if I have to stare at my list everyday. I am also hiding all of my daughter's and husband's naughty but oh so yummy junk food items. I'm going to wrap them up and put them on the top shelf of the cabinets so it's not the first thing staring at me when I open the cabinet door. Junk food is a real bad weakness for me. So I am purging my kitchen. I am going to keep a journal over the next month (they say it'a a sure fire way to help you stay on track) to watch my progress. I am really hoping that by March 31st I will have reached my final goal of weighing 132 pounds which would be about a loss of 5% of my body wieght, Hopefully too that with pounds lost inches will melt off as well. So here I go to purge the kitchen.

Sorry, meant to add - whatever weight works your muscles to the point that you can't do any more reps with good form is the right one for you (per Coach Nicole), so if it's 5 or 8 pounds that's great! I think a lot of women stick to the 2-3 pound weights, and unless you're just starting out that's probably not going to make a huge difference unless you do a whole lot of reps. Most women are stronger than they think!
I started out with a pretty decent amount of muscle from doing yoga and hiking (I use my arms a lot . . . because I'm clutzy and have terrible balance, ha ha), so I had a bit of a head start for strength training.

@Lisa Marie - you described my upper body workout almost exactly, ha ha - spooky! I do 2 sets and 15 reps of each: chest press, chest flys, bicep curls, bent over rows, tricep extensions (did I forget anything?). I also throw in some bicycle crunches for the heck of it. :)
I don't do the shoulder press on upper body days because I do a nifty little squat/hammer curl/shoulder press combo on my "total body" days. I really have to get on this core thing though . . . it's just my least favorite thing to do, I guess, so I procrastinate!

@ two new posters - welcome!

Oh jaydee let me tell you how sore my abs are today after doing BB dvd yesterday. I can feel it all parts of my ab. It's such a great feeling! When you do ST do you do just 1 exercise per muscle or do you do several? For instance when I train I will do like 12 reps of chest press, 12 reps bent over row, 12 of shoulder press, 12 bicep curl, and 12 tricep extensions. That way I am hitting all parts of my upper body. That's basically the only exercises I know. I don't think I am going to use the machines at the gym for ST...I didn't feel it as well as I do when I used dumbbells. I have been using 5 pounds but have a set of 8s as well but I can't do all the exercises using the heavier ones.

Thanks Lisa Marie! I may just have to check that Brooke Burke one out, too! It's been awhile since I got that oh-so-satisfying ab soreness. I saw an interview with BB recently, and they spoke about her fitness DVD. I thought it seemed worth a try, so it seems like a "sign" that you also recommend it! :)
Last night I did cardio and upper body strength training and . . . um . . . I'm having some trouble lifting my arms today, ha ha. Tonight, more cardio and lower body - looking forward to having sore thighs and glutes tomorrow! Tomorrow I think I might back off and make it a yoga day so I can still move this weekend. :)
Ladies, if you're not challenging yourself with the strength training - let me encourage you to do so! I started using my stepfather's 10-lb dumbbells instead of my cute 5-lb girl weights (ha ha), and I've noticed a huge difference. I've lost 3/4 inch from each arm but am WAY more defined. My boyfriend says I might be stronger than he is now. :)

Does anyone have any ideas for challenges? Maybe we can have both a nutrition and a fitness challenge? I find that challenges give me something to strive for. They give me motivation to get up off my butt when I don't feel like it. I am glad you all like the idea.

I am happy the thread didn t die and new people joined in. I love Lisa-marie s idea of daily/weekly challenges. We should actually already start, June 1st isn t so far away...

I went running 6 km yesterday. I stretched but I haven t been running outside in along time so my legs are quite sore. I really dislike strength training but I know it is really important so I ll do a Jilian Michael s strength workout today.
I keep watching my food, it s going good.
I would like to weight myself, I ll do that tomorrow morning at the gym.
And there s 98 days left. More than enough to reach my goal !

Jaydee-

OMG I just checked out Brooke Burke's Transform your Body dvd from my library yesterday. It is a full body workout but you can pick what part you want to work on vs doing the whole thing from start to end. I did the ab part today (no equipment neccessary). It kicked my butt! I am still feeling it hours later. The way Brooke does the exercises is definitely not for beginners but there are modified versions for each of the exercises she does. It's super challenging and you might want to look into it depending on what your goals are.

Today I did 15 minutes of cardio and upper body strength

This is perfect, because May 31 is my goal date! And the swimsuit is definitely tops on my list of "reasons to stay motivated!"
What I've eaten so far today . . . Breakfast: Oatmeal with flax seeds (organic brand in a packet, Natural Directions - it's awesome), 1 cup strawberries and 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 oz almonds (I split them up, half at breakfast and half mid-morning snack), Lunch: 3 cups mixed baby greens salad, 12 grape tomatoes, 1/4 cup cannelini beans, 4 oz 2% cottage cheese, 1 Tbsp. light balsamic dressing, 1 orange, 10 baby carrots.
This is pretty much what I eat for breakfast and lunch every day, ha ha. In the afternoon as a snack, I eat an apple, 2 oz. turkey breast, and a babybel light cheese. For dinner, a baked sweet potato, 2 oz. plain low or non-fat greek yogurt, fresh parsley, 1 cup of 1% milk, and a tablespoon of peanut butter (it's like dessert for me).
Exercise planned for today: HIIT on the stationary bike, and strength focusing on upper body.

Can anyone recommend some great ab exercises that work for them? I don't have a lot of equipment other than my yoga mat.

I will definitely check out kettlebell. I am not too familar with it. The gym I go to now doesn't offer any fitness classes which I am bummed about. I think I am going to check to see if I can maybe find a kettlebell video from our library and see what it's like. Thanks so much for the idea!!

Love the idea LISA_MARIE!!!! If you have been sick it could possibly be from that! Have you ever tried kettlebell? I have a membership at my Y and they have a family kettlebell class and let me tell you it is AMAZING. It is designed from full body strength training and there are so many things you can do with it! If you have never tried I encourage you to talk to a trainer about it or try to find a class near you! I HATE doing weight machines or free weights. So this class has helped tremendously because its strength training in a class and its fun! I am up moving around doing several different things. SO its not boring to me!! I am always up for bouncing off ideas etc. Hope you have a wonderful day!

I am up for this challenge. I have the date posted on thr fridge with a pic of my ideal bathing suit. Hopefully if it stares at me everyday when I go to the kitchen it will help keep me motivated. I opened a gym membership and have gone twice now but am uncertain of what kind of routine I want. I know I want full body ST two days a week but I have no idea how much weight to use when it comes to the machines. I have been using 5 pound dumbells when I am at home but find that I can do 30 pounds on the machines which sometimes I can just barely pump out the same number of reps with an 8 pound dumbell at home so I am confused about that. I don't have much endurance and could only do 20 mins on the treadmill at 3.5 speed. And after I got off I thought I was going to faint. I know thats bad but it might have been because I have been sick and most likely not getting enough water. Hopefully it will get better. How do you all feel about bouncing ideas off one another or sharing recipes or doing like daily/weekly challenges so we can keep the posts coming and that way nobody gets discouraged for lack of activity on this?

TELAVIVIT do not give up!!!!! You can do anything that you put your mind to!!!! It is just a matter of finding the right combination of what works right for you!!! Sparkpeople is an amazing place. There friends that you can make here are awesome. It is an avenue of great support and motivation. Without sparkpeople I wouldn't be where I am today! I always worry about not eating enough food. I hardly ever meet my daily minimum in any nutrition category. I know people say it bad. But its not that I dont eat, I do I guess it just isnt the right amount of stuff. I always feel like I eat so much then I track everything and I find I barely make 1000 calories or 45 g of protein etc. Hope you dont get discouraged just cause this thread has been inactive for a few days.

It was raining too much so I didn t go to Zumba. But I ve been running 2 days ago, and to a spinning class yesterday. I ll go running tonight I think or maybe go to a strength class.
I ve been really watching my food, and as I cook more, I don t even feel like it. I really enjoy what I m eating. I m a bit scared that I don t eat enough though, but I m just not that hungry.

I haven t weight myself yet as I don t have a scale at home (considering buying one, but I m afraid I ll compulsively weigh myself all day long). I ll wait for the next time I m at gym in the morning which will be tomorrow I guess.

I m happy I m on the right track.
I feel a bit alone in this thread though... I can t believe that everybody already dropped out of the challenge...so where are you spark people ?

It took me some time to understand how to find this topic again. How s it going for everybody?
I ve weighed myself at the gym a couple days ago and I ve put on 4 kilos in the last few months.
I ve tried to be good, nutrition and exercise wise. But it is definitely hard. I m a student and work on top of that 32 hours a week, so I don t always have the courage to eat right or go to the gym. I m trying my best though.
I ate a futomaki roll today, had a home made juice, vegetables with fish for dinner. And for the time I m trying a zumba class tonight. I ve always had really bad coordination so I m a bit anxious but I hear everywhere it s really fun so I wanna give it a try.

Hi All
I had a soy protein vanilla shake with strawberrys and ground chia seeds this morning. For lunch I had a salad with a scoop of chicken salad and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Dinner was tough for me tonight because my husband wanted Thai food so I had some rice with chicken and vegetables I only used a little bit of the curry sauce but this definitely wasn't diet. I had a few strawberrys for dessert and I didn't do any cardio today. Hopefully I will do some cardio on my elliptical in the morning before work and have a better diet day.

Anyone willing to share what they've eaten so far today? I find it hard to come up with new ideas and get bored with the same foods over and over. So far today I've had 1 scrambled egg with whole wheat toast, 1 banana and 4 glasses of water. Certainly couldn't be much boring than that. I plan on starting the 30 day shred tonight when my husband gets home from work so that he can watch the kids.

I m up for it. Where I live it starts to be sunny enough to go to the beach by the end of march, but having a knock out body by June 1st would be great. It s a first for me as well to be joining an online community but I really think it can help.
Good luck to you !
And I ll go to the gym right now !!

Hi everyone,
I want this summer to be the best summer ever and I know shedding this extra weight I've been dragging around is definitely going to help. We have 15 weeks to do this and I am confident we can all achieve this goal. I will be posting my food intake and exercise minutes daily. This is the first time I have joined an online community like this and I hope making new friends with the same goal will keep me motivated.
Talk to you soon!
Marissa
