I'm with you guys. I long ago gave up trying to impress others with my physique and focus on meeting my own personal goals. As I get older (51 in December) and busier (typical 70-80 hour work weeks between teaching and PT) it is much harder to have the time and energy for training. But I do the best I can and keep on keeping on.
Stay with it brothers!

I think bodybuilding gives people the immediate impression of Arnie. Truth is, most of us are not even genetically capable of getting anywhere near that (even with drug use). Ya, once you realize at whatever point you're not getting there is a bit of a let down, but then you realize, there is still a lot of good to be done.
I'm with you KJ. My goal is simply to put more weight on the bar. I focus on the big three lifts. Squats, deads and benches. I use accessory exercises to get me past stuck points.
My goal is singularly focused. Get strong. Don't care about 6 pack, big arms, etc. I want strong legs, strong back, etc. More weight on the bar, adjust diet according to body fat %, keep lifting.
Gainz are gainz, brother. Small or large, keep 'em coming.
I'm building a good body or at least that's how I'd summarize what I'm doing. I have me goals but to be an amature bodybuilder has long since left my mind. I like my gains and I love how my woman and other women look at me but I'm not dedicated enough to "cut" and be diligent about becoming a bodybuilder. My age (50) has nothing to do with it as I see lots of older guys RIPPED! But I have come to the realization that I'm okay with my path for now. I am NOT gonna stop thinking about the possibility but for now I am plugging along making gains at a snails pace but gains nonetheless.
