Thanks so much for that great post! It really helped me remember the whole picture. I especially liked what you said about being glad about once being at a healthy weight. I too spent most of my life being at a healthy weight and have been getting down on myself for now not being at a great weight. One day at time is always helpful to hear. Thanks! I so agree with the idea that we must be unreasonable and refuse to accept the things as they are..Most of the "change" I have seen in the last 50 years or so has not been the same as "progress." We have become so infatuated with "going with the flow" that we are not watching where we are going. It is hard to swim against the current, but we must go "backwards" and reevaluate those "old-fashioned" values that we are letting slip away. Just for the record, many of us "liberals" believe in fighting for them!!
My favorite quote (from high school graduation) is " A wise man changes his mind, but a fool never does." For instance, if a political candidate comes to realize that he no longer believes in what he once did, why shouldn't he change his position? That in other terms is known as "personal growth! thank you motivated@last for inspiring me to take a harder look at my views of the world.

Just what i needed to hear.I have been like that and love the way you took stock and handled the weight issue without letting it overpower you. I still bash myself up everytime i cant fit into clothes or the scale shows yet another upward. Inspired by you i am also going to plan outings with friends which involve fun physical activities..trekking,nature walks.Last few years its just been meeting for dinner and drinks. You are right on track and will smooth sail to your goals.Goodluck!

Two months ago I took the first step in changing my life. I recognized I needed to change. I was unhappy with myself, especially the way I looked and felt plus I knew my health was suffering because of my self-neglect and unhealthy habits.
Fast track two months later and this is what I have learned:
~1~ Take it one day at a time, one step at a time. Keep in mind the overall picture but focus on the small goals, the mini-ones that breakdown the big ones. With this in mind, I take it day by day, and know what I want to accomplish each week and each month. For example, before I would think about all the weight I needed to loose but now I focus on the loosing the next pound. I use to think about everything I needed to give up but I have learned I can have a piece of chocolate but I don't need to eat the whole box. Portion control and moderation is the key.
~2~ Before I would beat myself up about letting myself gained so much weight. I would constantly bash myself by saying 'How could I have let myself get so big when 5 years ago I was at a healthy weight of 150 lbs?' Now I draw on those times as inspiration. I know what it feels like to be healthy and happy and adventurous and positive and absolutely amazing!!! Channeling that inner self makes me move, eat healthy, and feel awesome!!! One of my spark friends privately wrote me and told me that I was lucky...She said that I know what it feels like to feel and be healthy. And I think that she is right.
~3~ I am stronger and more determined than I ever thought I was. With each passing day, I actually surprise myself when I exercise longer than planned and it amazes me that exercising has become easier even though I work harder with each passing day. I also have the willpower to say no to unhealthy food and I am enjoying healthy food again. Berry Sorbet (with hardly any sugar) and fruit smoothies have become my daily treats.
~4~ I don't need to be 150 lbs to enjoy life; I can live life and embrace it right now. For the past year or two, I constantly said 'If I ever loose the weight, I will......' That train of thought has vanished. I am planning and enjoying adventures now. My husband and I enjoy more time with friends now and we go do something fun every weekend. It is so much fun going on a mini-adventure every weekend and exploring new places. It is the best reward for me after a successful week.
~5~ The only person I am in competition with is myself. I am always trying to better myself when it comes to exercise; for example, walk faster, try something new, and challenge myself. I consider this a journey of self-discovery and I am realizing that even though I may be obese, I am pretty fit and my endurance is really remarkable.
~6~ I have always known that my husband is amazing and the best but these two months have made me realize is the word amazing doesn't serve him justice. His support, his encouragement, and belief in me has reached a whole new level these past months. My husband has always been a fit person and a healthy eater and its great that we are getting to share this lifestyle together.
~7~ I am doing everything in my power to become healthy so I can increase my changes to have a baby. My husband and I really want to start a family but I think my weight is preventing us from this. It makes me happy.
~8~ I am embracing the power of positive thinking. I think of everything is an opportunity to improve or better myself!!! Remember...Life is what you make it and any negative situation can be turned into a positive one as long as you approach it with a positive attitude and smile!!
