Welcome to SparkPeople!
Are you competitive by nature? One of my daily goals is to hit 100 SparkPoints. When I do that, I've not only read articles, I've interacted with other members by reading and commenting on their blogs and writing my own blog. 100 points gets me here and gets me active each and every day.
When I started, I made the commitment to workout daily and write a blog about it. On days when I don't feel like doing it, I think about the blog I need to write and I certainly do NOT want to write that I was lazy and did not work out.
Maintain your goals on your SparkPage (that's what all the goal-setting gurus write about) and make the goals public on your page. Write about it on your blog every day.
Weight loss = calorie maintenance, cardio, and strength. Calorie maintenance is every day, cardio is at least five days per week, and strength is 3 to 4 days per week. I believe you need all three for a successful weight loss and fitness program.
Above all, be consistent. Doing something toward you goal every day will pay big rewards over the next few months. You can do this!

Hi Sam and welcome to Sparkpeople!
I'm a "newbie" to SP, too, and have been using the site about 2 weeks now. I found it helpful to start out by logging what I eat/drink in the Nutrition tracker. You can also log your exercise in the fitness tracker. A feature that I find really helpful is to run a daily report on my nutrition which gives me tips on how I can improve my nutrition.
I learned my way around the site by working on Sparkpoints. If you click on my Sparkpoints in the tracker link, it will open a page with links to read articles, log goals, post messages, etc. You can also earn points while you complete these steps and then use these points to "buy" goodies for yourself as a reward and also give these as gifts to other SP members.
If you haven't had a chance, I'd recommend checking out the teams section and joining a few. This is a great way to meet people with similar interests. I've found the support from other SP members so helpful and motivating and hope you encounter the same.

Hey Sam, I'm Kimmi and I am in the same position you are. I actually was also on pinterest earlier today and decided to join. I've heard really good things about it in the past and decided to actually give it a try. I find that it is very similar to weight watchers and I have had success with that in the past but at this point being a college student it is not something I can afford right now. So good luck to you in your ventures and I hope that we both come out skinny in the end!!

Hey everyone, I'm Sam. Just got done making my account!
I was on Pinterest earlier this evening and came across a pin that led to this website. From what I've read and researched, this site seems great as long as you're determined to change your life - I definitely am!
Although my life is very chaotic and stressful right now I really want to develop an all around healthy lifestyle, so I don't have to worry about it when I get older and graduate from school. I'm looking forward to this adventure.
Hopefully I can learn to navigate this website quick! I am a little overwhelmed! Any starter tips or pointers are greatly appreciated. :)
