It should take the .5... did you delete everything from the box before entering it?

I'm new to this website...wish I'd found this before. How in the heck to do create half portions?
I want to put in 1/2 cup of rice...it won't take the 1/2 so I tried .5 and it still doesn't take it.
Help please....
