Seems like there are plenty of us in this situation! I have a beautiful 2 year old daughter but DH and I would like to try for a little boy. I was way overweight with my daughter at 223lbs on a 5'0 frame, BUT i only gained 9lbs during my whole pregnancy. I stayed very active and ate right because I knew what i was growing :) . I do want to be a healthy weight for my second pregnancy for more aesthetic reasons ( I didn't look pregnant just really fat lol). I also think it will make the pregnancy easier by my last 2 months i couldn't breathe! I hope that less fat means more room for my lungs! So good luck to everyone, and if you happen to get prego before you hit your goal weight just remember to eat a healthy diet and keep exercising to help grow a happy healthy baby!

I too am trying to lose weight to be healthy for pregnancy. I want to be as healthy as possible, as well as ensure I won't be holding anymore weight than I have to once baby comes that I need to work off....

I am 33 but my husband is 43, so for that reason we don't want to wait toooo long to try to conceive....but...I waffle: should we go ahead and just start trying because you never know how long it is going to take and I can lose weight in the meantime OR do I not start until I am where I want to be?

I told myself I wanted to lose 15 pounds before TTC, and have instead gained 7 over the holidays. So frustrating! But I'm down half a pound this week, and will keep going. We're going to start this month, but I'll keep working on losing the weight until we get a positive. DH is also trying to lose weight. We really want to be good examples for our kids, which is hard for me because I still prefer to eat like your typical five year old (chicken fingers, mac n cheese, grilled cheese) and am an incredibly picky eater. At least I'll be able to sympathize if my kids are picky too. Or should I say WHEN they are picky!

Good luck everyone! Baby steps (haha. punny).

I also am losing weight with TTC in mind. But I dunno....it took me 3 years to lose the baby weight from my first pregnancy. By the time I was myself again, I was so sick of being overweight that I really didn't want to get pregnant again because I hated the idea of having to work it all off again....and here I am, trying to work it all off again. I'm so tired of being fat, I wonder if I will really wan to go right back to square one by having a third baby.

I, too, am in this same situation. My husband and I decided for me to stop taking the pill last December because we wanted to TTC around this time. However, I haven't had a cycle since last February. My doctor says I have a condition that is causing me not to ovulate. One theory is that if I lose some weight, it might jumpstart my system and cause me to have a cycle and/or ovulate. I'm hoping that this is true. I have another doctors appointment in March for additional testing. It's an emotional and exhausting journey that my husband and I are taking.

I hope that your journey brings you joy.

REBM85, I am in the exact same position! I am overweight and have a lot of junk food habits I need to break before hubby and I start TTC. I'm here if you need support! Will this be your first pregnancy?

Hi REBM85,

I too was "worried" about my weight before getting pregnant with my son. I wanted to be the healthiest I could be, preparing my body for him. I started my journey to getting healthy on around Sep 2009 and by July 2010 I had lost approx 20 pounds, which was what I needed to lose. I got pregnant in August 2010 and had my son in April 2011. It was the best thing I've done for me and for him. Now I am trying to lose the 20 pounds all over again. :-) And planning on getting pregnant again next year! :-)

Best of luck to you!

Hi

I went to see my doc about getting pregnant and she told me to lose weight. I was 210 lbs getting pregnant, with a BMI of 33.

Best of luck and have fun

If you're planning on trying to conceive, start first with your doctor. I would shoot for as close to your healthy BMI range as you can get. There is no 'magic number,' but a healthy Mommy makes a healthy Baby. One thing to keep in mind is that as you lose weight your fertility is going increase, be prepared to account for your own increased fertility or be ready for a surprise. Best of luck! You're looking at a fun road, whenever it happens.
