Have you started taking any supplements? Too much vitamin C can make you have night sweats, I have heard. I don't know about other vitamins though.

I've heard toxins can be stored in fat cells, but have never heard hormones were. Have you increased or decreased your dairy intake?How about an increase or decrease in the amount of soy you eat? That can reportedly have an effect on hormonal levels in some women.

I haven't heard anything about hormones released with fat loss. I was put into early menopause with chemotherapy and then a year and a half later I had a hysterectomy. Since my cancer was hormonal positive I've had to have all estrogen and progesterone hormone production stopped. I definitely can notice the difference! Sluggish and hot flashes being the worse. But I will tell you that my surgeon and then my oncologist upped the dose put me on Effexor. This has helped tremendously with menopausal symptoms especially the hot flashes. Since I can never be on hormone replacement, it has been a great benefit to me.

I'm not menopausal, but I am peri-menopausal. I haven't experienced the "power surges" yet, but I have had an occasional warm spell. My symptoms have been some what erratic. My doctor says that's normal. LOL !!!
If you're looking to learn more about what menopause does to a woman's body, you might want to check out this book by Christine Northrup, the Wisdom of Menopause.
Personally, from talking to other women, I've found that engaging in a healthy diet and regular exercise can help reduce some of the symptoms. Do you do any strength or resistance training as part of your exercise routine ? If not, I'm going to encourage you to start. You're not too old to start strength training to increase lean muscle. Muscle is metabolic and helps to drive our metabolism. I truly feel that if a woman can increase her lean muscle, she'll have fewer menopause related symptoms.

Hormones and weight go hand and hand. As someone who is walking the line of menopause, I have only experienced a few hot flashes in my day. I have read that exercise can be a huge help when it comes to night sweats and hot flashes. You may just want to pass this by your doc to see if there is anything else that can be done without having to resort to taking hormones.

I was suddenly thrown into menopause about 11 years ago when I had my ovaries removed. During that time I had some night sweats and short hot flashes. I do not take hormone supplements and never have. I am currently 62.
I have lost about 10 pounds in 6 weeks and have noticed in recent days that my hot flashes and night sweats seem to be back. Other that a decrease in calories my daily life hasn't changed. I have always exercised regulary.
So, my theory is that there are hormones, as well as other goodies, are stored in fat cells and as we lose weight they are released into our systems messing up our hormone balance.
Has anyone also had this experience? Does anyone have a link/information about what can be released from fat cells as they shrink?
