Timed myself and did 76 in one minute flat. I started to slow a bit around 65. Could have gotten to 100 no problem with more time

Me too. I started doing 3 sets of them each day, because I have a rib always popping out of place. My doctor said weights would help a lot. Since I have no experience with free weights, and I don't belong to a gym right now, I'm doing pushups each day.

I'm still working toward 30. I can do 20 in the first 30 seconds, but it really slows after that.

Me neither.

I actually started a month ago doing 3 sets of 7, now I can do 27 straight.

The total I can do (straight) now seems related to the total number I do in set (which is now 3 X 9).

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Russ, I'll time mine after the gym today and see what I can do in a minute. I know I can get to 100 in one go and agree that total you can do with correct form is the better indicator. When I had to do a PT test for the naval academy we had 2 min to do as many as we could do and 100 was the perfect score. I don't think anyone went the full two minutes before their arms gave out, even the very few people who maxed. I did 70, but this was back when I was overweight.

I can do 60 in a minute. Normally I do about 57-60ish on my Physical fitness test each year. I'm impressed with Kylar though hitting 75. He didn't say it was in a minute exactly but that doesn't really matter. I think the max number you can do in one attempt is a better overall indicator than just how many you can do in 60 seconds but most of us (me included) wouldn't really have much left after 60 seconds anyways. Either way, good job to everyone who is working to improve. In the end, it doesn't matter what anyone else can do. I have to remind myself of this at the gym all the time because there are always guys lifting a ton more than I do. I'm getting stronger though and that is what is important to me. In fact I hit 7 reps last week on bench press with 80 lb dumbbells (new personal record). I know that is not particularly impressive for a guy but as a tall skinny guy it is good for me.

@DySmith, thank you!

Still working at it. Up to 27 last time I tried the minute test. I want to be able to do 30 before the end of the month, which puts me into the semi-good range for a man my age.

As for you, why be embarrassed? Today, you can do a few modified pushups. Tomorrow, maybe a few more, down the road, who knows? Don't gauge your performance by what I or anyone else can do, but what you can do today vs. what you could do yesterday.

Personally, I am still working on the modified pushups and I am too embarrassed to say what I can do, but I did find this link which may help you. It describes how many pushups a woman should be able to do at various fitness levels.

I can do about 25 or so, but I do full pushups rather than girl-pushups. That puts me in the Average category for a man my age, but I'm not sure how to translate that for women, since the chart assumes that women are doing the modified version.

I suppose I'll have to break out the stopwatch and do the darn test to find out...

you seem like a pretty humble guy actually, I do believe that I can get my pushup total (arm and chest strength) up pretty fast, plus chinups are always easier, pullups may be the true test of strength for most guys, thanks for responding

Ha, its so tempting to brag a little bit. A 50 pound lighter me plus not losing too much of the muscle means I can rip of pushups like its my job. Wish I could improve my pullups tho, I can only get 12 or so of those. Strong chest and tris, weak back and bis I guess

Ohhh interesting article...
I did 3 and died at the 4th one, so I'm in the "very very very poor" range :-/ I need to work on that.

OK, I can do 25, which is on the low end of average. My goal is to get to the next level. Check out this SP article with fitness ranges by age group.
