I'm a total nerd so the spark points give all of this an RPG feel for me, which really gets me motivated. As sad as this all is, when I get a new trophy it feels like levelling up. Wow, reading over this I realise what a loser I sound like, but there you go.

I agree with you Eric. Ditto everything you posted.

BTW, I know this is off-topic, but I don't want to start another post. Have you ever noticed that when (mainly women) lose weight and they talk about it, they, (meaning some,not all) say, "oh, I think you should be happy with who you are". Yeah right, that's after they've lost 50 plus pounds!!

If it works for you, then great. I finfd spark points to be totally pointless and useless.

My competition is my scale in my bathroom, how I look in the mirror, the body fat % calculated, and my times when I run my 5k's. The number of spark points I accumulate has zero impact on my health and wellness.

Spark points don't add anything to my experience here- I'd be reading articles to learn new fitness/nutrition things and posting in here regardless of whether I accumulate points.

I think it feeds into our competitive nature. I can challenge myself to see how many points I can get in a week or a month. Or, maybe see how quickly I can get 100 points or 1000. If we get hooked on that, we may learn some stuff or get hooked on some of the other things around here. I know I have found a couple recipes in SparkRecipes that I liked. I am excersising more than I was before I found SparkPeople. Is it because of the points? I don't know. But, maybe. Sheese, "points", "spinning", "recipes", "cooking", "excersing"? Next thing you know, I'll be moisturizing!

To each their own. If I could give away my spark points I would- I hate them!

PS: Spark points are NOT indicators of improvement in any manner. They are a waste of time.

I think you're spot on with your first statement about about "tricking us into thinking we are making progress". With weight loss, it can take 4-8 weeks for some people to see any kinds of changes. Spinning the wheel might make people think they are at least doing good and like you said, progressing, even though they are - they just can't "see" it yet.

I know I don't have the right answer....but it's pretty much just some pyscho-babble....it tricks us into thinking we are making progress...just another way to keep score.

I'm know it doesn't mean a lot...but I'm still mad about breaking my streak...does that mean I am OCD? If so, oh well...Wish I could become obessed with actually hitting the numbers that count...pounds off.

It's stupid....but I was just looking at my SparkStreaks and noticed that I had forgotten to spin the wheel last Friday....I had 267 days.

I was on, I posted messages, but for some damn reason I did not spin the wheel

Sometimes, I think it was that streak that kept me signing in....we'll see....

Done pouting like a child....I'm going to go hit something like a man...
