have not had it for years too, i usually make my own version with cooked ground beef, herbs, stewed tomatoes and frozen corn, then add a little shredded cheese to it and crumble tostito chips on top, very delicious. after you make it that way you won't be using hamburger helper, too much salt.

So good that u dont like it. It is not good for you. If u r on a tight budget like i am maybe you could buy dry pinto beans and lentils. I get fifty pounds of beans at sams club for 37. And it feeds a family of eight for a month. Of coarse i cook other stuff w it. A big bag of corn meal and a big bag of flour and u can add cornbread and dinner rolls. We also love dried lady cream peas and chick peas. Then if i have a winter squash i cut it in half and cook it then make some peas and onions and fill the squash w it then sprinkle w garlic and bake a few mire minutes. Same w a bell pepper. Or if u have any meat u can put it in any of the beans or peas for a change. Also can make cheep burritos and chili w them.

You can make your own hamburgere helper with better ingredients. The boxed stuff is way too high in sodium for me, plus it doesn't taste great. Try browning beef and onion, adding beef broth, and then Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. Then add cooked egg noodles. Yummy...like the Strogonoff Hamburger Helper, but better!

I've tried it; it was OK. Bought it because it was a very good price but don't plan to use it again.

It's definitely not gourmet, however we've used it before as a quick meal while camping. It just tasted better eating it outdoors.

Too salty for me, and they all taste the same.
But, it's something my son can make without help, so we have some around the house most of the time in case he needs to make dinner.

Ha! We eat it all the time. Mostly as it can stay in the cupboard until we need it and it doesn't spoil like fresh food. It doesn't bother our stomaches at all.

This is a great time of year to start pre making homemade mixes. Onions, green and red peppers, spring onion, carrots, and green (kale, turnip greens, parsley, cabbage) can all be diced and then spread thinly on a tray and dried (try the majority in the sun with slotted plastic wrap over and over night the drying process can be finished in the oven. You can then mix these with a variety of spices and if you want a creamy sauce add whey powder, dried milk or some potato flakes.
Then on day of prep you can add canned tomatoes or bouillon to taste. Also consider adding lentil or beans for 1/2 the meat to reduce calories.
Agree packaged stuff has tons of added starch, sugar and TONS of salt.

I had a very bad bout of food poisoning a few years ago. The strange thing was when I finally started to regain the desire to eat, I severely craved only Hamburger Helper for about a week, even though I'd not eaten it in years.
Well it is good you do not like it, it is garbage. Don't believe it is cheap either, you can boil your own noodles and add any meat or flavorings you like for a cheaper price.

hamburger helper. SALT CITY. Last time I had it I woke up with acute appedicitis. had to rush to hospital and get it removed. i threw up that Hamburger helper after coming out of anethesia. That is the last time I ever had it.

i thought i'd just rant a bit about this. first of all the directions are always wrong. it says 1 cup of water when like 4 cupd of water get it cooked to consistantly. Plus it usually looks like mush and tastes awfull. definatly not what what the commercials say it is. A wonderful family dinner.... blechk. I just can't stand cooking it. me an my finace' both just hate it. we may be poor and struggleing but i do much better at cooking then making instant nasty meal like this. i'm never buying it again.
