I see you did see the doctor and your blood pressure is low. I have the same problem with my blood pressure. I had at one time fixed it by eating a bag of Lays potato chips a day; did not help in my weight loss attempts. So when I first started Spark people program and cut out the chips the lightheadedness came back full swing. I have found if I eat a few TBSP's of salted sunflower seeds each night keeps me pretty good. But that is me, check with your doctor on how you should deal with the issue. I had actually had times when I completely passed out by standing up and walking too quickly. Get up really slow, especially getting out of bed. Sit up and dangle your feet for a bit before standing.

The three major culprits would be a drop in blood pressure, medication effects or a sugar drop. Either way, time to see the doc.

Definitely see a doctor, mention that you just gave up alcohol, it can be dangerous to stop drinking alcohol on your own if it has been a long time daily or nearly daily habit. There is a reason why there are hospitals dealing with that stuff. Go to a doctor and do not forget to mention that, if you had reached anywhere close to alcoholics level stopping on your own can be a serious health risk

You need to get to the doctor ASAP. Make an appointment as soon as possible. You may be suffering from low blood pressure. Have the nurse do a sitting and then standing blood pressure on you to see if there is a large swing in the numbers. Your doctor needs to know about this as soon as possible. I don't believe it has anything to do with your eating or exercising...it has everything to do with your general health and well being.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I did see my doctor and she said my blood pressure is low and is testing for anemia regarding the lightheadedness. I appreciate the advice and am thankful for the resources I have here with Sparkpeople!
WHOA! Not good! You probably want to see your doctor ASAP.
I'd guess that a lack of calories and/or nutrients is to blame. I've had this happen to me as well, and it was either from: 1)not consuming enough calories, or 2)eating a protein-rich diet. You need to make sure you're eating enough food, and that your diet is well-rounded. You may also want to consult a nutritionist -- many insurance plans will cover it.

A 1.5 pound gain this week does NOT mean you're doing anything wrong. While a safe weekly weight loss would be 1-2 pounds per week, there may be weeks you don't lose. There may even be weeks you gain ! And that doesn't mean you're doing something wrong.
In order to truly gain one pound of fat, a person needs to eat an extra 3,500 calories on top of their normal intake. So, if you know you didn't eat and extra 5,000+ calories, then you know you didn't gain fat. Why did you gain weight ? You're retaining water. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to gain weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope, it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days. I can easily gain or lose as much a 3-4 pounds in a day because of water retention or release.
Regarding the light headedness you're feeling, you definitely should talk to your doctor since there are many possible causes. One thing I would ask if is if you've been drinking enough water. It's been extremely hot the last few days and if you aren't drinking enough water, you may feel nauseous, light headed, weak, etc...
So, do make sure you're drinking plenty of water. But, definitely give your doctor a call, just to be safe.

definitely go see your doc of course since like Coact Nancy said we are n't docs. I get light headed like that all the time and it's from hypostalic, basically meaning the blood rushes out of my head... but it could be any number of things. :)

Sadly none of us are in a position to know what is going on. It could be a number of issues, but you may want to contact your doctor and see what he/she has to say. Blood sugar, dehydration could be two factors but as stated earlier, SparkPeople's members and experts are not a substitue for medical advice you should get from your own healthcare provider.

I recommitted to Spark about 5 weeks ago. I stopped drinking alcohol (a major calorie drain for me), started tracking my food and drinking a ton of water everyday (at least 9 cups), and recommitted to exercising at least 3 times a week (usually a total of running 12-15 miles/week and strength training 1-2x/week). In the first 4 weeks I lost 4 pounds, this past week I gained a pound and a half. My problem (besides the weight gain setback) is that now I get light headed all of the time! When I've been sitting still for 5 minutes or more and go to stand up, I immediately get light headed and a little dizzy. This can't be normal! What is going on??
