Hi and welcome to Spark People where you will find lots of information and tons of support and encouragement from all our members. You will find that we also have fun along the way. Drink your 8-8oz glasses of water a day (If you only drink one now, add to as you are able until you are drinking your 8 cups or more a day), watch your portion control (measure everything in the beginning...guaranteed it will get easier) and walk, dance or do any exercise you enjoy (start with 10 minutes a day or several times a day and add to it as you are able or have time). Use your fitness and nutrition tracker daily (guaranteed to work if you use them consistently and honestly). Pick one thing to change...one thing at a time. Don't try to change to many things at once as that can be very overwhelming. Just try to take one step, one minute, one hour, one day, one week at a time. They honestly will all add up to the bigger numbers. These tips will definitely help in lowering your numbers and increasing your ability to enjoy life. Don't expect miracles right away...this is a lifestyle change not a diet. You will be much healthier in the long run. Post any concerns, comments or questions you may have and someone will respond quickly. Start each day with a positive thought just for that day. Reading and reflecting on an inspirational thought or message before you start your day can put you in a positive frame of mind. Your thoughts determine whether you have a good day or a bad day. Fill your mind with positive ideas, suggestions, and thoughts. You will find it will change your attitude and changing your attitude can change your life. Sometimes just reading an inspirational quote or a short paragraph helps one see the positive in a situation. Sometimes as your day progresses you just need to take a break...Take a mental break and read or think about a message of inspiration. Never underestimate your power to change and improve! Welcome to Spark. You have taken an important step on your journey by joining! I've been a member a little more than two years. I made fantastic progress and lost 100 pounds in the first year BUT I became careless about nutrition and exercise and have gained a lot of the pounds back! I became disgusted with myself and closed my Spark account, but soon realized I NEEDED to be here. I'm back using the nutrition and exercise trackers now - they are so important. The sense of community and the friendships I have made here keep me going! Explore the site, make your Sparkpage if you haven’t, join teams, and make friends. In order to begin what is always for me an ardous journey, I need a community of like-minded people to help me. I am not usually this dependent on others, but have an empty nest now and find myself lonely and sad. If this site is the place to get what I need, then I am truly grateful. I am a "sandwich generation" inhabitant, taking care of aging parents and occasionally being needed by my children. My primary role is that of problem solver in these relationships. I know that I am not alone in this situation, but I am finding it difficult to focus my energies on improving my own health. My mother is a Type II diabetic who suffers from virtually every complication caused by this disease: blindness, kidney failure, neuropathy as well as depression. I do not wish to develop this terrible disease and know that the best prevention is to lose weight. I am fortunate to have normal blood sugars, but my risk increases with age. I really need a group of people to give me the attention and support I need to do this. I have a loving family who are very busy with their own lives. I live in a beautiful town and have a wonderful life. I am just finding food to be my comfort when I feel overwhelmed and just want to feel better. I am hoping to be able to both support and be supported in this group. I am still new to the site and have a lot to learn on how to use it to my best advantage. I would very much like to hear from others who are in a similar situation. I need solutions to problems that I have not encountered before. I am hoping for success as it truly is a serious health issue for me. As I have posted on my status, I am hopeful, but not yet determined. It will take determination for me to be successful in this quest to protect and improve my health. Thanks to all, looking forward to meeting you.
