It's different for everyone. The good thing is, you can do what works for you! You won't lose more weight working out on an empty stomach (contrary to the popular myth) and either way is safe, but different people handle morning food differently. I, for example, used to never eat anything before working out. But once I reached the point where I was going for more than an hour... I needed something!
I still don't like to eat heavy before I go, but I do grab a protein shake on the way for quick energy. And eat a good breakfast after!
