Thank you so much, Roxanne! Honestly, 4 months of this pain is plenty for me so I'm thrilled to hear of a success story.

after my surgery a month ago today, to "scrape" my knee cap" I was up on crutches immediately after surgery and on them for a couple days, and walking unassisted within 3 days.

I put off the surgery for a year, and now I can't figure out why I waited. I was TERRIFIED, but I can honestly say that I am pretty much pain free now.

Only a sports oriented orthopedic surgeon can give you any answers to your questions.
Surgical intervention is not required in all cases for example the chondromalacia
you cited as having. The MRI needs to be read by a radiologist and those results provided to a surgeon to create a diagnosis and treatment plan. No one here can advise you in any way since we lack the skills necessary. Any experience any of us may cite is specific to our individual and may not be relevant in yours. cases

It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.

I was hoping people who've gone though this would be able to tell me what to expect in terms of how things turned out for them. .

I'm curious how long they were unable to bear weight on their knee after surgery and if they actually were pain free eventually after the surgery. In other words- did surgery work?

I'm not looking for a diagnosis and treatment protocol.

Thanks again.

My first question is WHY are you going to the internet for any medical advice or information?
I would just wait to see what the doctor says and not freak yourself out about what could be.
I hurt my knee badly falling down the stairs and had what the doctor called a strain. i couldn't do lower body exercises for a while but i bammed out the upper body. my doctor also had me go through PT and they actually talked to my personal trainer and told him what I could do. It is better and I have just less of full range of motion, but i can workout full body. It took several months.

These are all questions you'll really need to talk to your doctor about. I'm sure that he/she will go over these things eventually, but if t hey're really bothering you, call the doctor's nurse!

Hello,
I somehow injured my knee in November of 2012 and finally went to the Drs. when it became clear it was not going to heal.

Yesterday I got the results of the MRI online, but haven't met with a Dr. to discuss yet other than Dr. Google who has me terrified.

This was the result:

Tears of the anterior and posterior horns of the medial meniscus
of the left knee.

Peri-meniscal cyst adjacent to the lateral meniscus therefore a
occult lateral meniscal tear cannot be excluded.

Patellar and medial femoral chondromalacia

Does anyone know what the treatment is? I'm assuming surgery will be required, but what is the prognosis generally speaking? Is there a period where you aren't allowed to bear weight on the repaired knee? Can this generally be fixed?

I am so discouraged since I've been in constant pain for so long that it feels like I'm never going to be better. I'm afraid this is just the start of never being pain free with my knees.

I've got two young children, one with special needs that can't be left with anyone so the thought of being on crutches for a month is freaking me out.

Can anyone share their experiences? Thanks, everyone.
