I hate myself for it, but I use poison. I put it in the drawers where my dog and cats can't get it. I like mice. I hate killing. But once the corn gets harvested, it seems like every mouse in the county moves into my house. Traps and the kitties can't handle the influx.
They carry deadly bacteria. I have had great luck with poisoned baits that cause the mouse to dehydrate and die very quickly. But don't use them if you have pets because the mice sometimes come out of hiding and die in plain sight.

We have mice! Our cats always get them. (We have 4). I used to feel bad and set them free, but they just come right back in following instinct. I'm such an animal lover (Hardly even kill insects in my home!), but mice chew wires, go to the bathroom everywhere, and I'm sure can carry bacteria...All of which are very dangerous so I just let the cats have at em.

Want to borrow my cat? When I first got him, I lived in a older house and he caught several.
But yes, if there is a huge mouse problem, you may want to get a professional in. And maybe get a cat to keep future issues at bay.

get advise/assistance from an exterminator. Access points may need to be plugged, as well as setting traps.
