RM, What am I doing? Well a variety of things, I track all of my food intake everyday so that I know that my calorie intake is staying consistant. And when I started on this road to weight loss I bought a bicycle. I worked my way up over the end of the summer to riding a distance of 16 miles. Quite an accomplishment for me since I hadn't rode a bike in over 8 years. Now that it is too cold out to ride my bike I am going to the local YMCA. I really enjoy the stairmaster. I've been doing that 2x a week and I've been lifting weights 3x a week. I still have my treadmill here at home for when I can't go out to the gym, but the gym is only 3 blocks away so no excuses right. Anyway, my weight loss was quick at first but now I think it is going to take some real consistance over a longer period of time to get the additional 21 lbs off, but that is okay because I'm in better health already and now I enjoy the exercize so it is not a chore anymore to workout. This seems like I am rambling so I am going to go. Hope this gives you an idea of just how simple it can be to loose those extra pounds. Good luck and I'll be looking for your success story soon!!!!!!!

Helen, that is awesome!!! You are a success. What exactly are you doing? What type of exercise and food plan are you following?
As for me, I am pleased to say I have not gained since my relapse. I have found it difficult to get started with the exercise but my eating has changed. I dont go out to eat much during the week at all. Maybe once on the weekend. I have water everyday now. Today my plan is to go to the gym after work. So now that I have told you that I will have to go. hehe. If you want to start communicating more here is my email. r_berlincourt@yahoo.com. I would love to hear from you. Keep up the good work!!!

Hey good to hear from you. I long since gave up on doing any excersize with my husband. Doing this on my own is the only way to go. If I fail it is my fault, but if I succeed it is my success. As for my update, things are going great. I've lost a total of 22 lbs. and I am past the half way point to my total goal of loosing 43 lbs. I just hope that my routine can stay as fun and as refreshing as it has these past few weeks. Good luck to you and please keep me posted.

Hi Helen, Well my update isnt so great. I have decided today to redo a few things. I have always exercised with my boyfriend but our schedules are differnt now and that makes it hard to workout together. So I have decided I need to do this on my own. I have made some new goals and I will let you know how it goes. How are you doing?

Good to hear from you RM! racket ball sounds like a blast. I've never played it either and I'm not going to get to unless I can find myself a partner. My friend that goes to the same gym as I do says that two beginners on the same racketball court could not be a good thing. I guess I'll have to find someone else to give it a go with me. Keep up the good work and I'll be looking for your updates!

Way to go Helenervin!!! Inches are really what matters. Im doing ok. Although I let life get crazy and lost my focus but not my desire. Today is a new day and I am back on track. Like you I get bored very easily. My boyfriend introduced me to the world of racketball. Wow, what a great workout it is. Im sore today but sure had fun. November is going to be very busy. Lots of family get togethers. Looking forward to the holidays.
I still like running but it is so dark in the morning and colder. We do go to the gym. I still need to work on the walking at work. Usually so busy I forget to go on my lunch or I just eat at my desk, not good I know. Keep up the good work!! I will keep posting and letting you know how I am doing.

So how's it going RM? I think I am starting to build stamina. Today I walked on my treadmill for 30 min. Before when I did 10 to 20 min I felt like I was going to give up. My legs were wobbly and it was just hard work, not much fun. Today seemed different. I think the variety added into my workout I don't have to use my treadmill for my only sorce of cardio and it makes it more fun when I do go for that long walk in my bedroom. My goal is to always keep things changing. It makes it hard to put my workouts on a streak because they are always different. I find something that I like I will stick to it for a while, but boredom starts in and I move on to something new and different that will keep my interest.

I haven't seen much additional weight loss but I took some measurement the other day and found that I have lost inches in my legs, waist and hips. Wahoo!!! and good luck to you all.

The Begin to be Fit class is just a jump start to get you familiar with the weight room and exersize equipment. Since I haven't lifted weights or use such equipment since high school I thought it would be a good idea. So far so good. I'm just trying to add variety so that I don't get burned out on just one form of exersize. That is usually when I quit, when I get bored. Good luck to all, and keep it fun!!

Sounds like you two are doing very well in spite of minor slips on the weekend. Wahoo!

That Begin to Be Fit class sounds interesting.

A tip to add to Olamac's short run idea: Pick a landmark at which you will start to jog; pick the next landmark at which you will start to walk; repeat. I call this a point to point run/walk. If there are plenty of repeat landmarks along your path (mailboxes, driveways, utility poles, etc.), plan ahead to switch from run to walk or walk to run at each of those landmarks, or at every second of those landmarks, or in a ratio of 2:1 landmarks so that you walk more or run more, etc.

Wow! Rem! that's awesome! you're up to three miles!! Great!! When I was walking three miles, I began inserting short little jogs into my walk. It helped out tremendously!! I ended up losing 10 lbs in a matter of weeks!! it was great! the inches start just pouring off when you're able to walk that far, and insert just short little 100 yard jogs here and there. Nothing to make you winded, but something to get the heart rate going a little more than before! Congratulations on getting to that distance!!

hey good for you. I too found myself falling backwards during the weekend. I did manage to follow my plan for a full week. And like you I am also getting it together today. I did walk 3 miles on the weekend. I am staying focused on my goal!

Well today I'm back on track. Over the weekend I really got away from my improved eating habits, and I fell back into some old bad habits. But today is a new day. I went to the gym and I started a BEGIN TO BE FIT class that it offers. Hopefully in doing this I can build some muscle while loosing some inches. How are things going for you RMB?

Thanks Helenervin,
It helps to know that someone else has had success with a plan like this. So far I am right on track. I weighed myself in the beginning and now look forward to seeing some changes. Im not in any real hurry to lose the weight as long as I see progress. Good luck to you and keep me informed of how you are doing. Thanks again

I've tried the streaking thing, but like you I don't think it will work for me. I will tell you that my plan for losing weight is very similar to yours. I cut back on what foods I ate. I started exersizing 3 or 4 times a week. Make the activities something that you enjoy. So this is what I've been doing now for about 6 weeks and I've lost 17 of the 43 lbs. that I started out to loose. Now I enjoy my exersize more and don't mind trying new healthy foods more often. Good luck and I hope this helps keep you motivated.

Thank you for your support. Yes I knew I needed to be able to meet the goals. I also know I will need to review them and make sure they are working for me. I think this plan will help keep me motivated.

They're great goals and I see you've been sensible and cut down on the things you like, not just cut them out. It's important not to feel deprived. Good luck and I'm sure you'll make it.

Hi Everyone,
I have thought long and hard about doing a exercise streak or something like that and realized it wouldnt really work for me at this time. So, after watching my favorite hockey team (RED WINGS) it suddenly hit me. They won championship last year. They must of had goals, the big one was to win the cup. So I began to think about some of the small steps they needed to take to acheieve the big goal and it got me thinking about my goal of losing 40 pounds.
So I made myself a game plan and as you can see it isnt just diet and exercise goals. Here it is: Goal to lose 10 pounds in 30 days
Steps to do it:

1) Read Sparkpeople motivation tips each week.
2) Take a 15 minute walk 3x a week during lunch at work.
3) Drink at least 16oz of water a day.
4) Go to the gym 3x a week.
5) Limit the amount of fast food to 2x a week.
6) Make a grocery list weekly and plan meals.
7) Limit candy to only 3x a week.
8) I will do these goals for 30 days and post at Sparkpeople and review the results weekly.
I will keep you posted on how it goes. And any input you may have please feel free to let me know. Good luck to you all. Oh and my goal date is Nov 19th 2002
