Hi Ali,

Archimedes gave some wonderful advice. I, too, believe that it is the small changes we make that allow us to move toward of goal of healthy living.

None of us are failures no matter how many times we have had to restart this journey. We are just learners.

One of the most important lessons I have learned on this journey is that PERFECTION HAS NO ROLE IN LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. I like further add that we cannot allow ourselves this all-or-nothing mentality. In other words, if I don't have an hour to work out in, I won't do anything.

The great thing about our body is it doesn't need exercise all at one time to gain the benefits. Studies have shown that even just 10 minutes of exercise 3 times a day is just as beneficial as one longer bout. So if you can carve out 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes say sometime during the day and then 10 minutes in the evening, go for it.

And as you start to expend those calories and build that metabolism you may find yourself having more energy and having a more restful night's sleep.

Hello, Ali ! Welcome to Spark People !!

My advice is to start with some simple changes. Don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated. And don't look at weight loss or good health with an all or nothing mentality. If the only healthy thing you were to do for yourself today was to drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction.

Start with some simple changes you can stick with. Example, if you're not used to eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, set a goal to eat 2-3 servings each day for one week. If you're not used to drinking 8 glasses of water, set a goal to drink 2-4 glasses each day for one week. If you're not used to regular exercise, set a goal to take a 30 minute walk each day for one week. Once you've achieved those, then you create new ones.

And that's how good health starts. It starts with a daily walk, eating your veggies and drinking your water.

I just joined this website, am excited and hoping it will help. After many losses the last being 3 years ago after my dad passed away, I started gaining weight, I can't seem to loose the weight and don't have the motivation to exercise. I don't think I'm eating as much but I'm eating the wrong foods. I'm also taking antidepressants which may be the cause of the weight gain. I need to really focus on loosing the extra pounds so I can feel good about myself again.
