Try Boudreaux's Butt Paste for the chaffing: slather it on right before the sit ups.

I think my tailbone protrudes more than the average person (it's not like I can check) and for that exact reason, I never, EVER do situps. Not to mention that they are a pretty useless exercise anyways.

I thought it might be my clothes, a seam or something, but they are the same clothes and no large seams. Kinda frustrating to have it happen all of a sudden and not be able to figure out why. A literal pain in the butt!

Can you put a mat or towel under your butt? Maybe your exercise clothes are contributing to the problem. Maybe if you add another layer to your clothing, you won't have this skin problem.

I guess I should have been a bit more clear, PT is physical training and it is for the military...I am required to do situps as one of the events.

Also, I always do them with a THICK pad , but that didn't seem to help :(

I got some of the Glide stuff today so once my butt heals I will give that a try, I hope it works! I just can't figure out why all of a sudden this is happening. I'm not doing anything differently than I have been for the past 12 years..

It may seem like a weird question but I bet others have similar problems! I also recommend that Glide stuff! It helps a lot (doesn't last forever) and could be an answer if you must do the crunches. Good luck and more power to you for trying to reach your fitness goals despite the discomfort!

Nope, you don't have to do sit ups. You could do any other type of abdominal exercise if you'd like. In fact, many fitness professionals no longer have their clients do sit ups because they place too much stress on the lower back.

If you feel discomfort during a sit up, tell your PT ! You could try reverse crunches, plank, side plank, boat pose, crunches on a stability ball, etc...

I know that fitness tests do test a person's abdominal strength by seeing how many a person can do in X amount of time. but the fact is, there really are better ways to increase abdominal strength without doing situps.

Of course, if you have to do the situps to pass a certain test, then put a pillow or some other soft surface like a yoga mat under your tailbone so that you don't get the chaffing. some runners also use a product called BODY GLIDE. that's a gel you put between your legs to keep from chaffing. use it in the areas you've been getting the chaffing. any good sports store should have it.

Ok, recently I have been having an issue while doing situps with the skin on both butt cheeks right at the top at the tailbone rubbing together and chaffing so bad I am actually bleeding! I can do other ab exercises during my normal workouts but for some PT sessions and my PT test I am required to do situps. Yesterday at the gym I was only able to do 50 before it just hurt so bad I had to stop. I need to do 73 to 80 in 2 minutes at the end of April.

I need suggestions on how to get this to stop! This is also the first time in 12 years I have ever had this issue.
