I have been dealing with PCOS since I was 16 and have had a lot of problems as a result of it. The weight gain has been hard, which is why I finally decided to have a Gastric Bypass, which I did on 8/2.
There is also the extra hair and the lack of periods, and being unable to conceive. I have been on Metformin for over 10 years, and I take 2500mg a day. I did 2 rounds of clomid before my ex husband begged me to stop because he couldn't take the emotional rollercoaster LOL. I am hoping with the surgery and the weight loss I can get back on track again. :D

I have PCOS as well. I did not have a period for 2 years. I am only 24. I was scared I was going into early menopause. I am happy to say that my body is back on track. My fiance and I will be getting married 6/29/2013 and I hope and pray that I will be able to get pregnant as soon as we say I do! I wish you great luck on your journey!

There are several PCOS teams here on SP that I am sure one of them might fit you bill for ppl to talk to who have it as well.
I've been living with it since a child myself and no one knew it till a few years ago (2003) when I was told what it was I had and why I had some issues that couldn't be explained, unless you knew about PCOS that is (shakes head).
Anyhow, when are you getting hitched? N and I got hitched May 2nd 2009

I have PCOS & found out about it in 2010 after TTC for 6 months. I found that I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit on my left ovary & I needed surgery right away. I was told that they would have to take my ovary with it due to the damage it had caused it. Once they were in there, they found that my other ovary didn't look so great either from years of PCOS. They managed to save 1/3 of my ovary in hopes that it would still produce eggs however, it does not. On a great note, I was able to conceive my daughter Emma 7 months later with the help of taking Metformin and clomid.
When I first took Metformin, I didn't notice any weight loss. However, I'm taking it again in hopes to get pregnant with my second baby & I've lost 25 pounds so far. I'm hoping that I will be able to continue to lose more weight even if I get pregnant again. I've got at least 60+ pounds extra on me and for the second round, I really want to do it much healthier than the first time (gained 52 pounds).
Best of luck to you. Definitely inquire about Metformin and ask if it would be helpful to you. Don't ever give up on your hopes of having a family. Miracles do happen. I have proof of that. :)

My best friend has PCOS as well, and it actually almost killed her 2 weeks ago. A cyst ruptured on her, and if she had not woken up from the pain, she would not be here right now.
I have seen her struggle to loose the weight to be ready to conceive a child when she and her fiance are ready.
I wish you all the luck hun, and I understand how hard it can be from seeing how my best friend struggles with it.
Thank you sooo much for this group I also have P.C.O.S I found out when I was 16 but was told that it wouldn't affect me when I got older this was a lie. I am 29 yrs old now and have been unable to conceive I have been to many Dr's to try to find an answer looks like loosing all this weight that was put on because of P.C.O.S is what is causing me to have soo many problems . Can't wait to read of your forums to see how each and everyone of your progress is coming along.
