Of course you can, but personally I stopped using sprays when they ruined my first set of baking pans after college: all that gunk baked on from the added ingredients, no matter how much I scrubbed. Plus there's the smell from the propellants. Do you really want to be eating that?

I spray bread slices with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray, sprinkle with garlic powder, a little paprika for color, some dried parsley and sprinkle very lightly with Parmesan cheese. Then, I put it in the broiler. But, one thing to keep in mind is that the butter spray is not zero calories, even though it says it is on the container. So, I stick to a serving or two of the spray.

I use my butter-flavoured Pam to spray on bread to make grilled cheese and also to "lube up" popcorn a bit so it will hold the salt.
Just be aware that it isn't calorie-free so use as little as possible to get the job done.

I have a Pampered Chef Olivie Oil Mister. I am sure you could melt some butter and use it the same way. I just don't buy Pam or the I can't believe it isn't butter spray stuff because it isn't healthy with all the chemicals in there. Or, in my opinion it isn't healthy. I'm not a nutritionist.

It worked....but less butter taste than we might have liked. So I think next time I'll still do it this way, but then use some of the pump spray I Can't Believe It's Not Butter as soon as it comes out of the broiler. Thanks for your ideas everyone!

I do that, but I use a Misto (olive oil mister) because they don't sell PAM where I live. I love it! I use it for all sorts of things. Today I'm making mushroom tortellini and instead of sauce, I'm just going to spray them lightly with olive oil.

That is how they used to make "grilled" cheese and garlic bread in the cafeteria when I was in school. It was then baked. I always liked it then, so I'm sure it would work. I may have to give it a shot...never really thought about it until I read this post.

I do this all the time. I have even made grill cheese this way. Not the most decadent thing but it works. I rarely waste calories on butter these days....

Dragonchilde, of course I know we can eat anything we want that fits into our plan. I just meant whether it would work to use the pan spray or if the taste isn't compatible. Sometimes I think sometimes the pan sprays leave an odd taste on food. I'm working on it right now...excited about dinner tonight:-)

What do you mean by "wondering if I could use" and "If I can use"?

This is your lifestyle, not ours. You can have anything you like, if it fits in your calorie range! This isn't a restrictive diet plan that says "You can have this, but not that." If you enjoy it, it fits in your calorie range, and you're meeting your nutritional goals, why wouldn't you be able to have it?

I used the butter spray and garlic powder many times (my husband had CHF) and he loved it, especially with pasta. I like the olive oil spray idea as well.

I've actually done this with olive oil from an "oil mister." That worked well. But then again, I like the taste of olive oil, and a little goes a long way on plain bread. I don't know if i would appreciate the flavour nuances of Pam quite as much...

but hey, worth a try. Make it once, then you'll know if it is ever worth making again :)

My husband thought it would be too oily but it's not like I'm going to saturate it! I also thought of using Molly McButter (they used to have a garlic flavored one). Thanks for the reply Cortney-Lee:-)

I'm planning our dinner and wondering if I could use Pam (Butter Flavored) pan spray to spray my bread slices with before I add the garlic. The margarine we use has 70 calories per T. If I can use the pan spray we could each have TWO slices of low-cal (garlic) bread if we want:-)
