Keep plugging away and soon that 2.5 miles will seem like an EZ Day!

As for the bad week, if you mean that your runs were bad, as in "Running really stank today!", as oppossed to motivation or something, that is how it always goes with running. There are Great Run Days, OK Run Days, and Stinko Run Days. I have forever tried to figure out how to make a higher percentage of runs Great (rest? sleep? previous exercise? nutrition?) but haven't gotten anywhere.

(Doc--I gotta tell ya, I love that. Wind in your hair, Sparks at your back, smoke coming off your feet...That's a keeper!)

GIEHLSML--please let us know how it goes--2.5 is a really significant distance. It's only three quarters of a mile shy of Three Miles!!! You're doing so great!

This week I will be running 2.5 miles. This will be the longest I've ever ran! I'm excited...

Lately, my life has had a lot of stress and I've noticed that running serves as a good cope mechanism.

This past week wasn't so good...I took the roller coaster ride down a major hill...and now it is important for me to come back strong. This week is very important...I'll keep you all posted!

By the way, thanks for cheering me on!!! It really makes a difference.

This morning I ran 2.25 miles. I had to stop quite often to get a drink of water. I haven't mastered running and drinking...

My time was 35 minutes and 13 seconds...so all in all not too bad. It was so humid this morning and I found that my breathing was harder...

I felt good for the last quarter mile thought because I kept thinking about how great it will feel when I cross the finish line at the race and everyone is there cheering me on! I CAN"T WAIT!!!

I am turning into my biggest fan!

Good for you for getting Right back in there!!! I can't tell you how many times I let one unmet workout ruin the whole structure--it's like I would punish myself for not keeping a promise to myself. That's a double-masochism isn't it?! Yikes...Anyway, I'm so excited you were able to get through the "setback" (although it seems to me you were able to turn it into a learning experience, which in itself is a success!)

CYPRINODON your extra bosst of power must have been what I needed...I almost didn't even go to the gym. It was one of those days when going to the gym was the last thing on my mind...

BUT I DID IT! I ran 2 miles in 31 minutes and 25 seconds...I couldn't believe it! I felt amazing afterward and it made me remember why you should never place your goals on the back burner...keep them in front of you or you will lose your way!

Thanks for all of the support...tomorrow's run should be easy...it is only 1.5 miles! Can you believe I think it will be easy? What a change!

Would you believe it, I didn't run on Saturday. I let myself over book my schedule and made no time to train.

This was a good step back for me. Things have been going so well that I didn't think I could fail. Sometimes when you start taking a goal for granted, you stop trying hard to succeed without knowing...I think this is what happened.

It is okay though, this week I am not planning anything for Saturday morning and I am scheduling a running date with one of my best friends...so there should be no problem...

Tomorrow I run 2 miles...wish me luck! This is unbelievable!

I am so amazed at your diligence! You make me want to get out there, too! I have joint problems, so my doctor said no outside running. But I have turned the treadmill at the gym into my friend! Keep it up, G!

This weekend training was slow. Running outside is a lot different than running on a treadmill. I'm taking it slow and it is going good though.

Today I ran 1.75 miles. Day one of training I ran 1.5 miles im 27.43 minutes. Today I ran 1.75 in 27.00 minutes. So, I'm speeding up. I felt good. I feel like my form is getting better and I'm getting more comfortable. Thursday I will step back down to 1.5 miles and back up on Saturday to 1.75 miles.

Next week I move up to 2 miles. I'm a little nervous, but I think that as I get more comfortable, that will eventually fade away.

Most of all I am just excited. This is a new adventure for me and I'm having an awesome time figuring out that I can do this!

WOW ! Great going..... I think that is so good. I used to run years ago and I am starting to think about trying it again. I like the info you gave about starting slow and working your way up to it. I know of a 5k run coming up in about 8 monyhs. I think that I will go for it . See what an inspiration you are just by returning. Thanks!

It seems like everyone is running in races this year. I think I'm going to enter myself in one for sept. and another in oct. it's just too humid and nasty hot to do one earlier than early fall here(in the armpit of america...delaware. it's so muggy and nasty hot!!! Gross. I come from a dry climate and this one is just awful for runnnig!! I hate it!)

I'm glad you pulled yourself up. I'm going to add some to the pull up.

You are a runner! Doing it and loving it is all it takes.

As for speed, you are doing fine. I think you will gradually speed up over time because that is what I did. After a year of running, I was easily doing 6 or 7 miles in an hour. This slow speed seemed to be some kind of a natural limit for me because I never got any faster without putting in some serious effort that really hurt my legs. Some women easily do 7 or 8-minute miles while for others, a mile takes 12 minutes. Give yourself a year of running and see how you have progressed. Also, check out ttp://www.jeffgalloway.com/ and you may decide that you are a marathoner.

If you haven't been doing any ab work, you might consider starting to. A strong core can prevent backache caused by running. A good Pilates video might be just the thing you need.

First, thanks again for the electric support. You have no idea how much this helps...

Today is a great day...my first REST day! Instead of taking a complete mental and physical break...I'm doing a really good stretching session. My back has been sore since I started to run so this will be my main focus.

Tomorrow I have another 1.5 miles to run and this will be my first run ouside and not on a treadmill. I'm a little nervous, but I know that I have built a STRONG foundation with the SparkPeople System...so I will make it.

I started thinking last night about my running times. I was feeling disappointed by them because it takes me over 25 minutes to run 1.5 miles. I was talking to my boyfriend, who used the SparkPeople System to train for a marathon last year, and he was talking about running a 5K in about 25 minutes...am I too slow? Should I be able to run faster? Maybe I'm not a runner? Then I told myself to STOP and CONGRADULATE myself on starting something new, something I have never done, something that I was too scared to try. So I did, and now I realize my goal...My goal is to finish. I might change that for later races (if I continue to do them) or I might not? But for this time...the goal is to simply finish!

Now I'm fired up because I KNOW I CAN DO IT!

Keep up the good work!!! I began training in March to run a 4 mile run for Diabetes. It is in October. I started very slow. I am now running 2 miles regularly on weekdays and 3 miles on weekends. So, you can do it and you have a positive attitude!! Keep us updated and I will let you know how my 4 miles go!!

Another great day to post...

I ran 1.5 miles again today. That means I have already ran 3 miles this week...MORE THAN EVER BEFORE.

I decreased my time by about 1-1/2 minutes from last time to this one. Tomorrow is a REST day and then I run another 1.5 on Saturday. I can't believe it, but I'm doing it.

Thanks for the support! I'll keep you posted...

For the last couple of months I've been searching for something to get me going again. My goals were in a slump and my self-esteem was also hurting. I felt like a failure because I had lost site of my goals...

BUT I AM BACK!

Myself and a group of friends have decided to train and run in a local 5K together. Many of have never ran, so this is a real challenge...and exactly what I needed to jumpstart my program.

Yesterday I actually ran 1.5 miles without stopping...it was slow, but I DID IT! When I was finished I was so excited and I felt so good.

I wanted to post this to let everyone know that it is normal to take a step back...the most important thing to remember is to get back on track. Think about your goals...what do you want to accomplish? Perhaps you need to make some changes in your program or just set some new priorities!

Good luck and Keep reaching for your dreams!
