Reflection of my 2 yrs struggle with cancer:

Weight at 2011 .....highest in my life 196 lbs

6 mths on a feeding tube because of chemo/radiation treatments and not being able to swallow without a burning in my throat........ down to 128 lbs

Now with surgery over, oct 2012.....eating again ......back to 165.5 lbs.

Needing to lose weight for my health is the MOST important to me.

I agree with you. I am not losing weight for vanity reasons. i am not losing weight for superficial reasons. In fact, I don't consider what I am on a weightloss journey. I am on a health journey. I am seeking 100% function of body, mind and spirit with no evidence of disease.
I have my BIG WHY firmly in place. All I have to do is think of my BIG WHY and I have ALL the motivation i need. I am not doing this for my BIG WHY. I am doing this BECAUSE of my BIG WHY. My reason can't do it for me. In fact, he isn't talking yet and the ones who can talk aren't aware they are my reason. I want to have Quality time with all of them. They are my everything.

Today I encountered many people asking me about my weight loss as I walked through doing my job at the hospital. The main question was of course how did I do it, but the second question is what made you decide to do it. I will tell you first some of the reasons for not losing weight..
1) to look better for your spouse
2) because you have a high school reunion coming up
3) to be able to wear the latest fashions
4) you entered a biggest loser contest.
5) to look like a movie star
Even though all of these reasons sound good and admirable...
If you dont do it for the RIGHT reason, you wont maintain the weight loss!
And here is the right reason:
At 169 lbs, I was borderline obese and my list of ailments was growing:high blood pressure, high cholesterol, extreme belly fat, no energy, aching joints from fibromyalgia, hormone hell,
not sleeping well, depression and anxiety...
So far I have lost 25 lbs for the future QUALITY OF LIFE that I want to experience along with my six kids, 13 1/2 grandkids, devoted husband, and friends.
As you reach your mile markers in your weight loss take time to reflect on the reason you set out on this journey in the first place. I did, and my healthy body and outlook is reward enough for me.
