You want your calories burned number to be as accurate as possible. If you decide to work out less later on, then decrease that number later on. But if you are burning more now, keep that number where you are. Your ranges are only as accurate as the info you input. And "erring on the side of losing weight" could actually end up being eating too little for you size and lifestyle and end up hindering you loss.

This is my 4th week using SparkPeople and I have a question. I keep getting this message (below) at the bottom of my screen when I enter my cardio for the day/week:

* "The number of calories you should eat to manage your weight depends on many factors, including how many calories you burn through exercise. It may seem counterintuitive, but eating too little while burning too much can actually hurt your weight-management goals and the outcome of your fitness program. If you are consistently burning more calories than recommended here, please update your fitness settings as soon as possible. This may adjust your calorie ranges (if necessary) so you can reach your goals in a timely and healthy manner."

When I joined the site, I entered a ball park number of calories burned, but I have been burning 700 - 1000 cals./week more the past 4 weeks than I typically do. Some weeks I can make it to the gym 5 days and others I only make it 4 days. My question is this: Should I change the number of calories I burn each week in spite of the fact that they may in fact change over time. If I change my fitness settings to include these extra calories, it also increases the number of calories I ought to be eating each day. But, if I then if over time I decrease the amount of cardio I get then the number of calories I ought to be eating will also decrease. I'd rather err on the side of losing weight, but don't want to sabotage all of my hard work either!

I hope this question make sense. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!
