Wow, that is a lot of stuff to keep track of!! Good luck! I am going to stick with my weekly steak of four workouts per week and hope to make it 52 weeks. I have started the nutrition stuff, but I'm keeping mine separate. I think that is best for me for now... Hope everyone has a productive day!

Glad to hear from you Sarena:

Poor little guy. It's probably hard for him to watch the other kids running around while he is stuck with that cast.

I screwed up my new Streak on Day 3 and haven't re-started yet. I have moved my focus to getting my house completely cleaned and organized (inspired by Blue Eyes) and somehow lost the high motivation to exercise. I have always had this type of problem where I put my all into one thing while letting other things slide - - looks like I really need to put the SparkPeople system to work in growing out of this. It's about time seeing as I already passed 40.

My new Streak will have to combo things (and yeah I know this is an Exercise Streak thread but I'm talking about my combo here anyway). A combo Streak may be just the thing I need to achieve some balance in my life.

New Streak - 100 days of:
30 minutes or more of Exercise
taking daily vitamins
15 minutes or more of house work in addition to laundry and dishes (I always get these done already)
Being "on my feet" from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday (this means doing rather than lazing around reading; I can sit to watch my son's Saturday fall ball baseball game if my feet or back are tired and obviously I will have to sit if I am in the car)

Did I really commit to all of that stuff? Ouch!

Hi everyone !! It seems like ages since I've posted !! My grandson is doing much better, besides the fact that he had to start 1st grade in a cast. He's quite the trooper !
As far as streaking goes......I haven't been able to because " I sprained my back" lifting my grandson with the cast !!
The doctor said I should be able to start exercising the end of next week.
I haven't been able to sit very long, hence the reason for "not" posting.
Now that I can sit up for a while I'll be on here....at least in sprit !!
Go Streakers !!!!

Thank you all for your responses. I appreciate it. I'll see how she acts this weekend, and if you like, I'll keep you posted. I do like her, I just get annoyed so quickly! I don't know what's worse, having a friend like that, or not having a friend like that. Like I said, I'll see how things go this weekend. Thank you all again! You are my streakers!!

Ola, I know how you feel. I have a friend just like her. I found myself apologizing for her to my other friends ALL THE TIME. I finally realized that I needed to tell her how I felt. Although she was hurt, she eventually thanked me for being honest with her. When they are like that, they are compensating for some insecurity. She admited that she was jealous of my confidence and was trying to make me feel bad about it. Very warped, if you ask me. Anyway, good luck. If she is worth saving as a friend, think carefully about how you approach her! Have a great weekend.

Ola: If you have total fun with this girl in spite of her bad side, then accept the fun and don't expect any better than she gives. Expecting good from someone and then getting the opposite does tend to drive a person nuts (I know because I do it all the time - - Oh How Could He Be That Way!) She is not likely to do a 180 degree turn around over the next year so enjoy what you can and look out after that dog. With your new schedule, you won't have a lot of time to spend with her anyway and you will be meeting plenty of new people in classes.

TayBay:

What if you start small? For example: A four week Streak of doing the Yoga video three times per week and walking for 30 minutes four times per week. Starting small makes things easy to do and once you accomplish your Streak, you will be motivated to start another at a higher intensity. Good Luck.

I have a little bitty problem that has nothing directly to do with streaking...but it has a huge effect on why I havnen't streaked latley.
It's because of a friend. We do almost everythig girly together. shop, work out, sing, be silly, you know... well, she's just driving me crazy latley. Let me give you a few examples. She comes from a very very well to do family, and keeps telling people that they "run our city" -which is crap, and I think she uses her family as a way to get people scared into being nice to her. I don't want to be her friend because of her family, I like her. another thing. She's very spoiled...hence the well to do family, and gets everything, and when I don't have $100 bucks to blow on a new pair of shoes, she just doesn't get how I don't have money. Always complains about my boyfriend, and talks down to me. I just start avoiding her comments. And after a while It just pisses me off. The third thing that actually set me off is her dog. He's a nice sweet dog, I love him, He's an american bull dog, and he's very very active. super hyper. She NEVER walks him...I mean ever, I walk him because I feel so bad for the fella, she locks him in a kennel all day, and sometimes all night, because she doesn't want to vaccuum her house, and he chews on stuff because he has a ton of energy and has no where to get it out. I took care of him labor day weekend for her, let him out twice a day, walked him, (I left him outside on the nice days)...oh, and when she left, she 'forgot' to buy him food, so he had no food, so I had to buy it myself(and when I asked for a reimbursment,...I'm not made of money, I have two cats, my boyfriend and myself to feed!!, she had a problem with how much I asked for!!! (8.98....she thinks she only owes me 7.98...and she's arguing with me over it!!!!!I think it's rediculous!!!!!!). The dog went to the bathroom upstairs in her house or something, and she's talking like it's my fault. I walked the dog, I fed him, I watered him. I'm not going to check and clean your dang house for you! I"m not going to snoop upstaris...you know? so, I don't know how to confront her with this. She is just annoying me to death with all sorts of stuff...she thinks that because her parents are loaded, she can treat ALL people like they're trash!!! She yells at people in the grocery store that have kids, and very loudly professes that 'SHE HATES KIDS! GET THEM THE HE** OUT OF MY WAY!!! They're just kids! AHHHH!! We take classes at school together and do kickboxing together. I can't just stop talking to her, but her attitude is just annoying the crap out of me! (oh, and she was supposed to get me something for taking care of her dog, and now..she' 'can't find it'...bull..right?!) so, I'm just fed up, so is my boyfriend(who used to work for her mom until she acused him of stealing stuff.paintbrushes to be exact....he painted for her, and had an account set up at a paint store for supplies, and for seme reason, she doesn't think paint brushes are supplies for painting......you tell me what's wrong with this one?....and he's still working..(not for her obviously!)...her mom didn't put the curse of no jobs on him!!!!!! fortunatley all is fine between them..he explained that in order to paint, one needs paintbrushes!!)I'm sorry for writing my whole life story, but I'm just so fed up! I feel so used for my friendship. I'm too nice, and I don't really know how to be mean...what do I say to this girl? what do I do?

Hello! I am taking the advice and starting a streak! I just have to figure out where to start. Anybody have any ideas? I don't do well if I have to do anything at home although I was going to try a yoga tape. Does anyone know if yoga is any good? I was thinking about going to an aerobics or kickboxing class or something. What do you guys think?

You really should join us Dave. I've heard babies come faster when their Dads are Exercise Streakers.

Today is Streak 3 Day 3 for me (It's really something like Streak 5 or 6 due to my earlier short streaks but I don't remember what they were so my count starts with my first 30? (31? 32?)-day success.

Streak 1: 30 Days(or a little more, don't remember)
Streak 2: 50 Days
Streak 3: Going for 100 Days

Great job on the streak Cyp! I've never had much luck with streaks myself, and feel like I don't want to start one because of a fear of not making it. But I like your approach of achieving smaller streaks, then working up. I'm going to think about it this weekend and maybe stop being a lurker and start being a streaker on Monday!

I am with you all the way, Cyp. Although I am on my third week in a 52 week streak, I have started focusing more on my nutrition plan. I have been following a program called Naturally Slim. They basically help you follow the habits of people that are naturally thin. I have a friend that was prescribed by her doctor into the program and lost 70 lbs. It is very interesting. I will be in the program for 6 weeks and will fill you in on the process and my progress. If you want to check out their web site, it is naturallyslim.com.
I admire those of you that are in constant reevaluation of your life. I think you will experience more than the majority. Sparks are flying all over this board! Have a great Hump Day!

Yesterday was Day 50 of my Streak, Today I intend to Crash, and Tomorrow will be Day 1 of a New Streak. My long term goal is to do a 1000-day Exercise Streak before I turn 80. My Streak is 30 minutes or more per day, counting walking and stretching on days needed for resting muscles (NOTE: I actually haven't been using walking and stretching so I am probably pushing for an injury. Gotta stop doing that.) I have decided that I am going to change the way I do The Streak: This time was 50 days. Next I have to do 100 days. Then maybe 150 or 200 days. I will restart The Streak in intervals until I get to where I have to go 1000 days. This way is more motivational to me than to try going for 1000-days each time I bomb and must start over. Chris Is The Streak King (as he should be seeing as he is The Streak Inventor).

Hey TupeloHoney: Does your name have anything to do with actual honey produced in Florida by bees pollinating the Tupelo Tree (Black Gum, Black Tupelo, etc.) or are you a Honey from the Birthplace of Elvis? We have a topic in The Cafe entitled What Does Your Screen Name Mean if you are interested in posting there. I have a special interest in the Tupelo tree myself.

I ended up at a hotel Sunday night so I didn't blow The Streak on Monday. I got up early Monday morning to run on a treadmill at the hotel fitness center. I also ran on that treadmill Sunday afternoon and found an amazing speed increase at a joyful-to-me pace. I posted more about this under Stars. Today, I'll be doing a Taebo video I haven't done before, Advanced Live Volume 2, and tonight I plan to do upper body weight training.

Streak On Everyone!

I'm still doing well. I think I'm in love with my new workout. Kickboxing. Since it's at a Karate studio, they really emphasise the spiritual side of martial arts. Eventhough we're only taking Kickboxing, at the end of every class we have a little moment of reflection and it is just amazing! Who knew?!?

Day 6...going to kickboxing again tonight!!
Just so you don't think I'm doing the same exact thing every day... there are a few different classes, and different instructors, so that we don't do the same thing..and class all the time. You also get to choose what you want to work on in the "free" time(there's about 4- 5 min. sections that we get to decide what we want to work on....jump rope, weights, abs, plyo's, etc. ) I love it!!

Hi everyone,
I haven't been doing too well with my streak this week. My grandson broke his left leg last Sunday in a dirt bike accident (he's only 6) So, I've been helping my daughter out with him. Poor little guy, it was a nasty break right below the knee, and he had to have it surgically set. He's in a LOT of pain and my daughter is beside her self trying to take care of him and her 2 year old !
But, I have committed to do this streak and I WILL !

So at this point it's back to day 1.

I think that Maryann has a good plan.....and I think I'm going to adopt her idea..... I'm going to redesign my plan and take another look at my goals....maybe I either have too many or not the right ones ?

Cyp is right. Your streak is YOUR streak! My streak involves one day of rest in my week. It's very hard to actually do EVERY SINGLE DAY for 100 or 1000 days. I actually found it to be rather impossible. Also, if you are just starting out, it might not only be not feisable(sp?) for you, but not good for you too. A 4 day a week streak is GREAT! That's pretty much every other day..right? That's what is recommended for everyone. You need to give your muscles a little rest now and then...or they'll just poop out on you!

A Streak needs to be what you want it to be. You are the designer. Chris started his as a daily thing but that doesn't mean we all have to model after him. Your plan sounds excellent to me.

Hi my friends! I am on day 5 of my new streak and I want to bounce something off of you guys. In my entire life, I have not been able to exercise everyday. Do you think a streak could be a weekly thing? Like, my goal is to exercise 4 days a week with a dietary plan. That way I can measure my streak weekly and maybe gear toward 52 consecutive weeks. Does that sound fair or does a streak need to be a daily thing??

I'm sorry. I fell off. My streak begins anew this morning!

Day 1 all over again. There was just no time this weekend! I couldn't even make time! But that's ok. Monday, I caught up on some much needed sleep and relaxation after work, and this mornign, I went running! I started a new streak for myself on the Spark People Stars page.

On the up side, I've lost 7lbs!! yey!! This is coming from the girl who couldn't lose an ounce in the first 5 months of exercise! Now it seems that my body is just letting the fat finally go off my body! I'm not even working as hard as I was, I'm just running instead of walking when I do get around to it! I think the combination of drinking slim fast(once in a while for breakfast, not even daily!) and running is totally working for me!! yey!! FINALLY!

I've completed Day 37 of 1000.

Monday, I will be leaving my house at 4:00 a.m., driving 3 hours, sitting in a workshop from 8-5 with lunch brought in, and driving back home starting in rush hour traffic of a major city. I should be home by 9:00. I can: (1) plan my drive home to include a stop at some really great running or rock climbing place (there are caves, state parks, and cliffs between where I live and where I am going) and really tick my husband off for being extra late; (2) do my Streak when I get home regardless of how tired I am and then also suffer the next day by being even more tired; or (3) finally decide to add some handicaps to my Streak.

I can also blow The Streak and start over next Tuesday as I'm still wanting to do that since I had the neck thing happen during my first 100 days. I think I'm going to go with this one. My next Streak will contain some rules and handicaps.

It is hard to imagine how Chris does it without various events interrupting him.

Today is day 14! At least that's what I'm figuring. I'm a little fuzzy as to when i started.
Today was great because Dave and I went bike riding (great for legs) and then got off the bikes and played with the aerobie, which made us RUN, HOP, JUMP and SQUAT! It was better than an aerobics class because we were outside and enjoying the sunshine and interacting with each other!
Sometimes the best streaks are maintained by adding some FUN into the day!
How's everyone else doing?

I am so glad to hear that you are sticking with your original streak! 33 days is QUITE an accomplishment. So is 10 days, Ola! I made it to 8 days and had to start again(darnit!). I didn't have the flex day built into my first streak, so I am now on day 2 of my new streak, with a much clearer picture of my own limitations! I hope everyone has a wonderfully active weekend. Wow, an hour run sounds GREAT! Good luck Ola!

DAY 10!! I have made it to DAY 10!! I'm so proud! it seems to me like this streak is taking forever! I also don't feel like I'm pushing myself. I think I NEED to step up my intensity.
Cyp, way to go on day 33! You know, you really do inspire me! Thank you!

I went for a 30 min run this morning...well, mostly run, had to walk a couple of times. I did some stairs in that as well!! I can't wait till tomorrow! It's saturday and I really want to run for an hour! Maybe a bit more! I am going to get up early, and run early, so that I have a full day on sat! Also, it's a lot cooler in the morning...(well, like 5 degrees, but every little bit helps!!)

Regarding whether today is my Day 5 or my Day 33: I agree with Mary Ann and Ola completely. I see the exceptions, handicaps, rules, and "Just Doing It Within Current Limitations" as The Spirit of The Streak. I guess I shouldn't violate that Spirit and thus set a bad example so - - - Today is Day 33 for me (I just found I messed up my count: My Victory Day of meeting my medium term goal to beat my own record, Day Number 31, was on Wednesday.)

Stuff has disappeared from our Exercise Streak Challenge Thread so I'm starting Volume 2.
