I think your friends and family are using social pressure to make sure you don't succeed.
Drinking enough water will NOT make you gain weight or increase bloating, unless something is otherwise going seriously wrong with your body, and believe me you would know if that were happening, because you would be hospitalized!
You won't get an infection from water unless you are drinking untreated water from a well or other natural source. Tap water has been treated for pathogens and is generally safe to drink except in the case of widespread flooding, and then civil authorities let everyone know to boil water before drinking.
Whoever is telling you that drinking water is bad for you might mean well, but they are not well-informed. Just nod, thank them for their concern, and keep drinking your water!

There was a story in the news a couple years ago about a woman who died after taking part in a radio contest where she drank EXCESSIVE amounts of water. I mean excessive -- like two gallons in a couple of hours.
Drinking your eight glasses of water a day is good for you and I don't think there's any way around that. That's not to say it is a silver bullet and that drinking water will solve all your weight loss issues. But it will fill you up. If you feel hungry, you may actually be thirsty, so try drinking some water and see if it helps you feel better. It will also help flush your system, so if you have a night where you eat a lot of salt, drink a lot of water the next day to help wash that away.

Your urine should never be clear...but more like lemonade/straw colored. If it is clear, you are drinking too much which can have fatal consequences. Most people do not have to worry about drinking too much, but for some, pushing fluids can be more detrimental to one's health, than not drinking enough. The push by the fitness industry is drink to thirst....
When a Specialist I was seeing for something totally unrelated, I mentioned that I got up usually 3x a night for a pee. He asked how much I drank (at that time generally 4-5 cups daily) so he asked me how much I was passing (good amounts) and the colour of my urine. I told him it was very pale or clear. He told me that I was drinking PLENTY, and in fact suggested I reduce it slightly. The thing is, I have always eaten loads of fruit - especially watery ones - and loads of casseroles. Both have heaps of liquid in them. He said to be more guided by the colour of the urine rather than the quantity. If you are in a really hot climate, you will need more fluid; conversely, if you are in a cooler climate you won't need as much. If you exercise heaps you need more - if you don't, then less is generally needed. Water is really good for people on a weight-loss journey because it doesn't have added chemicals (often caffeine) or sugar, so no calories, and is usually free. If you are doing heaps of really lengthy, strenuous exercise (running marathons etc.) then you MAY need to look at some sports electrolyte drink for while you are doing it.
I am not wanting to scare you, but often people have the "more the better' attitude. The fact is, too much CAN cause serious health complications as a result of watered down electrolytes (potassium, sodium, etc. etc.) which are essential for our very life.
I've never heard of gaining water weight from drinking water. I was told by a coach years ago, that when I am retaining water, I need to drink more water to release the water retention. Water is needed to keep our organs functioning properly, and we need water to flush deadly toxins that build up in our systems. I think we retain water when we don't drink enough. I think it is because your body will hold onto water if it thinks it won't get anymore. I am not a health or medical expert, but this has been my experience in the past.
I drink 8-12 glasses of water a day. I do not drink any soda, and rarely juice. I wil drink unsweetened ice tea if I want something more than water. The times when I drank water the most, at least 12 glasses a day, I lost the most weight. Whatever your body doesn't need, it will get rid of the excess.
I know that if you don't drink enough water, your kidneys will have a lot of problems. I've seen this happen to other people. Your urine should be light yellow to clear. Mine looks like water because I drink a lot of water every day. If your urine is dark, dark yellow, it's not good. There was a time years ago when I had a really bad, toxic kidney infection, and the doctor told me it was because I wasn't drinking enough water at that time. I have never had one again after I started drinking as much as I do now.

Water is a very important nutrient, but drinking more than what our body needs will not guarantee faster weight loss results. That being said, there is no standard amount of water any of us really need, which is why we should drink to thirst. In fact there is no scientific research supporting the 8-8 ounce glasses of water per day rule many of us have come to know. Remember tea, coffee, juicy fruits and veggies also count toward your water intake.

I have been drinking my 8 glasses (4 pints) of water every day for the two weeks I have been on this diet. I have been on other diets but never did the water thing. My friends and family keep telling me that in drinking too much, saying its a myth about losing weight by doing it and saying that I will gain more weight 'water weight' and that it has lots of risks. Now I don't know what to do, will it make me gain weight? Will it give me a water infection? Or will it actually help me out with losing weight on this diet? Help please
