They taste different, its not just the eggs/egg whites that make the difference. You can look up recipes for yellow cakes and white cakes and see the difference in ingredients.

Concur with JWLROCKS. In addition to whites vs whole egg...the texture is coarser in a yellow cake

White cake uses just egg whites and yellow cake uses whole eggs.

First let me say that I very rarely ever use a cake mix, but I can't help but wonder what the difference is between a white cake mix and a yellow cake mix...? Just the color?
