OBVIOUSLY talk to your doc, but if you do not have a "diagnosis" get another one or push the one you have. I was being treated for every single joint in my body it seemed until FINALLY I backed my doc up and said LOOK I do not have a problem with every single part of my body. There must be a holistic issue. I now have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia (and the meds are working great) and then my "tennis elbow and back "stress" issue" which I kept harping on turned into me having my C5/6 and 6/7 (that's my cervical discs in my neck) removed and replaced with metal grates and a metal plate screwed over the whole thing.
One thing I have learned from taking care of my parents and now my own issues is the only person who is going to be advocate for your personal health is YOU. Your doctor may be great, but if he/she can get you in and out in 5 minutes they are not going to discuss your issues for 20. You MUST be your best personal advocate and DEMAND that they treat you properly.

Have you talked to your doctor about your pain ? What do they recommend for exercise ? Because of your medical issues, you should really start with the recommendations of your doctor before the well meaning, but totally anonymous advice of people on the internet.
If you find it difficult to walk for 15 minutes, can you walk for 10 minutes without any discomfort ? If so, then walk for as long as you can. A person can break their workouts up into shorter segments and still get all the benefits. Walking for 10 minutes three times a day still adds up to a 30 minute walk.
You could ask your doctor if it's okay to swim. Being in the water can help take stress off our joints. Things you might not be able to do on land, you could do in the walk like prolonged walking.
However, you have to ask your doctor first. They know more about you than we do. Even if a member with a back problem replied with what they do, you have to keep in mind that your injury is not the same as theirs. that's why anything we recommend could be harmful. That's why if members give some advice, CLEAR it with your doctor first.
Your doctor might not want you to do any exercise. How does a person lose weight without exercise ? By watching what they eat. When it comes to weight loss what matters most is what we eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit and healthy.

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Have you asked for a referral to a physical therapist? If not, you may want to do so. A physical therapist can do a full fitness assessment and develop a workout plan based on your medical history and what your doctor has cleared you to do.
I have chronic back and neck pain. I also have muscle spasms and pain in my shoulders. It hurts to do just about anything. I can't lift, and I can only walk very short distances because of nerve damage in my feet. Do you have any ideas what I can do to remain somewhat active?
