I soooo agree with the previous posters. There are so many things that can affect the number on the scale-- really, all the scale does is tell you the affect of gravity on your body at one particular moment in time. It does not tell you anything about water retention (for whatever reason-- TOM, because you're exercising more, because yesterday's lunch was higher in sodium that you thought, etc).
Are your clothes fitting better? Are your measurements (waist, hips etc) going down? Are you feeling better? All very good reasons to keep going, and "trust the process". Don't let one or two disappointing weigh-ins derail you. When I joined Spark, yes indeed I wanted to lose weight. But I really wanted to get healthy. I wanted to fit in smaller clothes and be physically capable of climbing the hill at work to the parking lot without feeling like I needed the paramedics to show up with oxygen, and eat nutritious foods that wouldn't cause me to have diabetes or heart disease or something else. It's not *just* about the number on the scale.
What helped me a LOT was to set up a reward system for myself that had nothing to do with the scale-- it was all based on staying within my calorie ranges, and exercising. Because even though I've lost the weight, I still need to be mindful of this healthy lifestyle to keep it off and stay fit.

What you're experiencing is perfectly normal. It's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain. Why did you "gain" water ? Because you started running. When a person works their muscles intensely, those muscle fibers soak up water like a sponge. This is what they are supposed to do. Your muscles will release any excess water they don't need once they've adapted to the new exercise routine.
I can easily gain 3-4 pounds in a day ! Is that a fat gain ? Nope, that too is nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that does pass in a few days.
You may even notice your weight goes up after an intense strength training workout. Ditto, it's nothing more than your muscles holding on to water. You may even notice some swelling. this too is normal and will pass.
In short, you're normal. Don't tie your emotions to the scale. Remember there is more to good health than a number that stares at us from between our toes in the morning.

Our weight is not a static number. There are so many variables that can have an effect on the scale. Just like your blood pressure, heart rate and body temp will vary throughout the day, same is true with your weight. Because our bodies are largely made up of water (the fitter we are the more water we retain), any deviation in our diet, hydration, workouts, even hormones can lead to a shift on the scale.
While the scale is one tool for measuring our progress, it is not always the most reliable and it is one reason why the closer we get to our goal weight, that we place the focus on what our body can do and not what the scale says.

Well, I just started about two weeks ago lost about a pound. I stayed within my goal went under once and over twice about 200 calories but I burned them off on the tread. And I still gain weight, it seem like all this holding out on the things I want to eat was for nothing and getting my butt to excercise everyday is not easy. But my husband told me something, he said " All this hard work Iam doing will pay off and I'll be healthy more then ever". That made me feel good! But not when I look in the mirror!

I was doing so good! I even recently started jogging instead of walking, so I know I do not need to change my exercise. I change it up all the time. One day I will do the ellipitical, one day I will walk, one day I will jog/run. I burn about 1500-2000 calories a week thru exercise. And I eat 1200-1300 calories a day. I have lost about 40 lbs so far. Only 10-20 more to go. But this week, I gained 2 pounds! Why? I measure out everything I eat! And I also do 30 minutes of strength training with the machines at the gym a few times a week (though I do not track it on here). I burn enough calories and have enough of a deficit that I should be losing 2 pounds a week, not gaining it.
