A big +1 to what Living4Today wrote. Your girls are old enough to understand that you will be more effective at taking care of them if you take care of yourself, too, and that includes doing what it takes to be healthy. Also, it's so, so important for them to see that women don't have to -- and shouldn't -- sacrifice themselves for others. I have two daughters so this hits home! I don't want them to grow up thinking they have to please others all the time.
Your girls are also old enough to help out and contribute to the family. They can do chores, help keep the house clean, pack their lunches for school, and help with cooking and cleanup. Helping with family jobs actually makes kids happier since they are actively working to make themselves and their family members happier/more comfortable/better fed.

I feel your pain. I have a 19 month old and work more than full-time some weeks. I work out on my lunch hour. We find dinners that are quick and easy, often eating leftovers for dinner during the week. While my little one is still very young, she still likes to help with the house. So your girls might be able to help out more. We tried exercising with her in the room, but it didn't work so well.
The bottom line is to do the best that you can with what you have. If you take your girls to the park, find a curb and do steps. etc. Most importantly, keep your spirits up and know that you are just one person.
I remember those shoes . It gets easier as they get older. You just have to find that balance. It is hard to find and hard to maintain. But living a healthy life and being physically fit (because that is what weight loss is truly about) will make you a better mother, better wife and better student. It will make you an awesome roll model for your daughters. This is why you make your health and physical fitness a priority along with being a mom and a spouse and a student. Meeting your needs will allow you to meet the needs of others. Little girls especially really need to see moms who have that balance and are living healthy lives. If not they will grow up to put everybody's needs above their own. Sometimes we do that to ourselves while not wanting it for our kids!

I end up exercising after the kids go to bed. That's pretty much my only free time. I have an elliptical (bought used) and many exercise DVDs.

Hi, I am new here, and am currently just trying to get my head into weight loss. However I have just started working full time again after being a stay at home mum for the past 6 years, and to top that off I start studying for my degree aswell from october on a part time basis, and to top that off I have my 2 gorgeous girls (5 and 8yr old) and partner. How do you all squeeze in time for yourselves (exercise and cooking healthy meals) and not neglect your children?
