Stairs!! Every now and then I will go to the gym and do 30 minutes of stairs and I feel it in my booty for 2 days after. Also helps with those pesky love handles. Plus - it's cardio instead of strength so it helps get you sweat and get you breathing!

I have seen a "motivational image" that basically says: if you are blessed with a naturally big booty, then exercise (squats, lunges, yadayada) only enhance it. You will have a nice TONED booty :) Every girls dream...

As long as you are fine with the way the butt looks then you are good to go. If you are not then you are at the right place to get it to where you want it to be.
I have a large butt; however, mine is very muscular. Part of this is because I tend to do a lot of exercises relating to legs and butt, including cycling, squats and lunges. As stated, these exercises won't directly cause you to lose fat in those areas -- overall fat/weight loss will. Biking 70 miles a day will do it, though that might not be realistic.

I agree, squats, lunges, kicks. I've also noticed that since I started doing yoga, my butt has gotten tighter and better shaped. I think it's all the weight bearing through the warrior poses.

I have to say, I do a lot of squats and lunges, and my butt looks fantastic these days! With that said... those exercises won't target fat on your butt; losing weight is an all-over process, and where/how you lose it is largely dependent on your genetics. IF you're not genetically predisposed to a J-Lo butt, you won't get one by squatting. :)
However, strengthening those muscles really will help the appearance, and certainly won't HURT anything!
I also suggest leg lifts, and what my trainer calls "dirty dogs" - these really work! They're like a leg lift, but instead of going back, you lift up like you're a dog peeing on a hydrant. :) You look ridiculous, but it'll make your bum scream in pain!
While on your weight loss journey make sure you are adding strength exercises at least twice a week. How great will it be to see a firmer backside after losing the fat off the top? SP has some great butt workouts that I've been using- a new one was added this week, even.
But as the other poster mentioned- squats are amazing for the butt! And there are so many variations to try.
