mashed potatoes are my comfort food so to make them less of a "white" food i add broccoli and low fat cream cheese and garlic and mash everything together. so good! i call them green mashed potatoes.

I love making meatloaf too with ground turkey, breadcrumbs, salsa and low fat cheddar... the salsa gives it GREAT flavor and keeps it moist.
serve with roasted potatoes ... yum!
I also love pasta and instead of serving it with heavy meat sauces I get creative and make veggie sauces. When I'm in a pinch I saute up zucchini, chopped tomato, mushrooms and onions with a garlic clove... sprinkle in a little flour, whisk in chicken stock to make thick sauce and toss while whole grain pasta...yum
One of my comfort foods is pasta. I make whole wheat spaghetti with tomato sauce, turkey pepperoni and extra lean beef (or ground turkey breast works well too) casserole. It's around 333 calories per cup. I find it hearty and satisfying.
What foods are comfort foods for you? I think that's a pretty individual question and maybe if you have a couple put down here, someone can help you make a healthy twist to it.
