There's gotta be something that doesn't hurt. my daughter hurt her back & after a couple weeks of rest & doc ok, she still goes and works out something. Just doesn't workout the thing that hurts.
I had surgery and still worked out a few minutes on the Wii until I felt good enough. after under 5 minute "pretend" workouts, I felt good enough to work out 6 min sitting down with the sparkpeople videos. Eventually I got up to 10 min spark people workouts-like crunchless core workouts. Now I am up to 1/2 hr sparkpeople videos.
I like the story about the frog in the bucket of cream. kept kicking and kicking until the cream turned into butter & got out!
