Don't panic or giveup, It's always much more fun putting on than taking it off. Keep tracking and exercising and "good things" will start to happen. emoticon

MISSHEATHER77,

a 13 pound gain in 3 weeks is substantial even for a water weight gain. Do your clothes still fit normally or do they feel tight ? If clothes that fit comfortably 3 weeks ago, now don't fit at all, you might want to talk to your doctor. If you know you didn't eat 45,000+ calories of food, then you know you didn't pack on fat.

During TOM, I can "gain" as much as 5-7 pounds. I've gained as much as 3-4 in a day. Both are water weight gains that do pass in a few days.

Have you changed your birth control or any medications ? I have friends who gained water weight when they changed birth control. This is without making any changes to diet or exercise. If you've had no changes, that's why it wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor. a 13 pound water weight gain in three weeks is substantial. And would give me some pause too.

I'm sorry you are disheartened. Maintaining a consistent weight can be really challenging.

13 lbs sounds like a lot, and it can be, but it also depends on your size. I can fluctuate as much as 5 lbs depending on my cycle. It's also not reasonable to expect too much difference in weight after only one week of tracking and exercise. If you continue tracking, exercising, and drinking your water you will see the results eventually. You'll have to give it at least the same amount of time as it took to gain the weight, though.

Maybe next time you take a vacation, you can figure out a plan ahead of time for tracking at least some of your food. See if you can arrange access to your Sparkpeople account via a computer or smartphone. I always gain when I don't track, that's my sad reality. At least next time you can be prepared.

Good luck, I know you can do it!

Hi MISSHEATHER77,

This is very difficult for any of us to say as to why you gained this amount of weight. While our weight is not a static number (it can fluctuate by as much as 7 pounds in the course of a day), If you truly gained 13 pounds in such a short period of time you may want to contact your doc just to make sure something else is not going on.

I went on vacation and stayed very active (for example, rode 20 miles on a bike and walked 2 miles in a day). I was thoughtful of food choices (had salad w oil and vinegar one night for dinner). Please tell me how I could gain 13 pounds in 3 weeks? That is 45,500 calories in addition to daily need. I am completely disheartened. I cant believe this. After one week at home where I have tracked, drank my water, and exercised- it is not leaving. I dont think it is water weight.
