I can't eat fish, and seldom eat meat because the thought of eating dead animals has always freaked me out and saddened me. Needless to say, I have a hard time getting enough protein, so I drink Elite Protein shakes with nonfat milk twice a day (about 200 cals)--one in the morning, and one at night. I use them as two of my five-six meals a day. For breakfast I have Irish steel cut oatmeal, about 3 hours after my shake, for lunch I have vegetables and beans or tofu or eggs (since you don't have to kill the animal to eat the eggs) and then when I get home from work, I have another shake, and then I have salad or veggies with beans or tofu, or sometimes I just have some sort of eggplant dish, or peanut butter and fruit or bread. Before I got to bed, I sometimes have half a protein bar. It works great for me, and I feel better using the shakes and protein bar than I used to feel. But then, I don't consider dead animal carcasses to be "real food". I also juice vegetables like kale, spinach, etc., but there's not that much protein in them.

i don't buy protein shakes, I make them and i don't use powders. I use spinach, kale, seaweed and other greens. I through in some vitamin c (ascerola powder) and some aloe. I may use them as meal replacements, but i get more nutrients out of my smoothies than I do from a regular meal.

Thanks for the info. I think I will go back to eating regular meals since it can tent to be expensive buying the shakes. I do think I am not eating enough calories, so back to regular, healthy foods for me.

I used to drink protein shakes but stopped for 2 reasons. First of all I prefer eating real food with a calorie free drink, secondly, I don't need to comsume excessive protein

I would say keep having them for breakfast if thats easy for you, but switch to a normal lunch. Also make sure you are getting ENOUGH calories, as you may not be

Your body needs real food, not fake food. I'm a muscle-head and I still only have protein shakes after workouts, and even then that's probably too much sometimes. The body relies on real good; don't deprive it.

In my opinion, protein shakes should not be used as a regular meal everyday. Yes you get your protein in, but your body needs more than protein. Use them for some days, especially work out days, but make sure you have something else with it if you are using it as a meal. Often times I throw it in a blender and add a banana or blueberries. My husband uses celery too. We even put in some peanut butter (so good!) if we just got back from a hike. If you are looking for a fast breakfast that is high in protein, try egg "muffins" I spray a cupcake pan, throw in some veggies (onions and green peppers are my fav) and a little bit of shredded cheese. Mix 1 1/2 cups egg whites with 3 eggs and some Spike seasoning and then pour that over the veggies and cheese. Bake at 375 for a half hour. When they cool throw them in pairs in bags. In the morning they just need a minute in the microwave and are ready to go! Saved my breakfast blues especially because you can change up the flavors!

You can't just live off protein shakes, I'd switch back to regular food!

I have been drinking these protein shakes I purchased at GNC Nutrition center, but I am unsure whether I should continue taking them or stop and start eating differently. I work out at least 4 days a week and because of my work schedule, it is easy to just get drink a shake for breakfast and another one for lunch and then have a regular dinner at about 7pm and I did lose some weight (10lbs) but I can't seem to lose any more weight. I think I have reached my plateau and I don't know who to break it. I don't know if I should continue drinking the shakes or just dropping them and start having a regular breakfast and lunch instead of replacing them with a protein shake. Has anyone else tried the protein shake diet and has it worked.
