HAPPINESS IS AN INSIDE JOB!

I'll bet no one ever told you - I think you're eating too many veggies. OR - I think you need a little more sugar in your diet!
I avoid sugar as much as possible and I fill my meals with as many non-starchy veggies as I can. Sugar and starch are not my friends. Avoid sugar and starch and eat all the plants you can!

I'm Karen and I'm retired, healthy, happy, and want to be thinner!

I lost about 20 lbs before I found SparkPeople. Now I'm reaching for a LOWER goal than before, (Dr. approved) but feel confident I can do it! The M-WORD - MODERATION- is the most important AND most difficult goal for me to attain. In fact, Moderation is a Four Letter Word, lol, in my book anyway.

Welcome to my page! My name is KAREN. (Unless I type too fast and leave out the A - which happens often and that's how I became KREN)

Of the time I invest in trying to get/stay healthy, 25% is spent trying to lose another pound and 75% is spent managing chronic pain. So don't expect my weight loss ticker to break any speed records!

DISCLAIMER FOR MY ARTWORK:
Caution! Rank amateur at work. No talent here, just technique and luck!! And a lot of FUN!

The biggest motivation for me seems to be sharing with others of like mind, along the sometimes rocky, hilly road to a healthier lifestyle.

Others inspire me, amaze me, tickle me, engage me emotionally and just remind me that besides the DIET RACE, I'm in the HUMAN RACE.

My Goals:
I'm aiming for a fit and healthy body, free from chronic pain.

My Program:
I'v come to realize I simply have to eat LESS. I also try to move more in any way I can. Old injuries keep me from doing much consistent exercise, but water activities save the day.

Personal Information:
I'm a native Texan living in Central Texas. I retired a little early, at age 58. I wake up each day expecting HAPPINESS. It's a great thing to look forward to.

Other Information:
My interests include oil and watercolor painting.

I've decided that my main "work" after retirement is keeping my body healthy and banishing pain and debility that tries to creep up on me.

KREN, thanks for the art supply goodie....I sent you a thank you, but did not figure out that I could send a note with it till I'd already sent it. This whole thing is a learning experience!

For acrylics I add a retardant so it doesn't dry quite as fast, and then I basically paint with it as if it were oils.

So far, when I have tried watercolors, I make mud. I have done some drawings with watercolor pencils, and they have come out well.

I too think about painting every day.....but so far I haven't gotten farther than cleaning my supplies and setting everything up. I think I'm going to begin with some charcoal drawing and hope it leads me back to the painting.

Good luck to us both on our artistic and healthful pursuits!

emoticon for the welcome mat!! Yes, swimming is indeed the fountain of youth! I always feel so invigorated when I do. Our gym has the pool closed for maintenance until Thursday. Was supposed to open tomorrow. Can't wait. Hope your evening goes good. Thanks again!

Thanks for welcoming me KREN....Kathleen told me about you, too. I'm glad you two reside fairly close to each other.

Yes, I paint, but I have had a long hiatus from doing anything....several years of life upheaval. I've made some steps to begin again and now I just have to do it......sort of like losing weight and getting fit.

I looked at the link to your art work.....nice.....do you mostly do watercolor? That is something I don't know how to do.....I love oil paint, but acrylic is easier to use since it dries faster.

I am trying to get the hang of the message boards....I've never done much and it's interesting to try to find the topics you're looking for.
