Time to Get Serious!

Hi, I'm Linda and live in Central North Carolina on my daughter's small horse farm where I help around the house and in caring for my computer-geek grandson. I was recently diagnosed as insulin resistant. (So that's why I can't lose weight!) I prefer not to identify as prediabetic since that seems to indicate that I can't change the course of my life. I'm here to start taking better care of myself and become accountable. I'm already doing a good amount of exercise, so that's a start.

My Goals:
Well, for right now I just want to get healthier and back into the jeans and such I "outgrew" a while back. And also, of course, to stave off the specter of diabetes which seems to be looming.

My Program:
I've been active at a gym with a pool for over a year now and am doing mostly water aerobics and yoga. I would get out and walk, but it's so ridiculously hot here! I'm still settling on the right dietary changes to make and am leaning toward low(er) carb, since I seem to feel better with that.

Personal Information:
These days I hail from NC, but I was born in Philly and lived all over eastern PA, Vermont and Northern VA. I had serious health problems which caused me to lose a great deal of weight, all of which is back now.

Other Information:
I love to read mysteries and have become a rabid trivia buff. I'm an event organizer for one of my Meetup groups and enjoy arranging outings for this group, from which I've made many close friends.

I have seen a lot pf pictures of that area and heard a lot about it. I hope you will post pictures.

I don't know what is wrong with these men but they are certainly very disappointing. Maybe they are just afraid of an intelligent woman. I tend to think something is wrong with them and not you but then I agree with Steve Harvey in that women are the real prizes and should be treated as such. Sometimes you find the right men when you least expect it. It was a fluke that I met my husband. Fate has a way of making things happen if they were meant to be. The men you are meeting sound rather ordinary and not someone I could see you with.

Bet those folks in Pittsboro will have lots of suggestions for you. And it's tons closer than F-V. I would think just about any independent nursery in the area can help you.The big box place folks usually aren't as knowledgeable as the independents.

I heard there are good, knowledgeable people at a nursery in Pittsboro. Maybe I'll check them out first, since they're closer. Yeah, I thought the same thing about the chicken stuff, though they don't call it mulch. I didn't have time to look at the tomatoes when I was at Lowe's. I'll bet the little guy is determinate if it's supposed to be bushy and not need staking.

I don't think our soil is sandy enough to need amendment per se, but I do find it dries out fast and maybe needs something to give it more body. Kinda like my hair!

She's on Old Honeycutt Rd. in Fuquay-Varina. She's the one that came out to the house and did the design for the area between the two houses. She's also a frequent guest host on WPTF's Weekend Gardener program on Saturday mornings. Very knowledgeable. Graduated State with a degree in horticulture. That hen mulch sounds suspiciously like turkey mulch to me. I have no idea about amending sandy soil. I have none of that at all. Just clay and rocks! I know Perma Till will help break up the soil but it may also help to hold moisture, as it's a porous rock. Did you see those little tomato plants at Lowes? The tag doesn't mention if they are determinate or indeterminate. Guess it will just be a surprise!
