Butterfly ... success is on the horizon!

Once upon a time, I was a very stressed woman, living an overwhelming life. I couldn't manage. By the setting of the sun, I was pulling out my evening snack ... a tray of yummies. Not a plate, not a bowl, but a tray. My weight steadily gained. I never noticed. I wore pup tents for dresses. Not a pair of pants were made that would fit my misshapen form.

I would have continued that horrible existence had I not suffered the most wretched ear infection an adult could ever experience. ...

The Nurse Practitioner said my weight without emotion ... "281 pounds." I can't tell you anything else she said, but over a decade later, I can still hear those words, that number. I went home and ate my way into oblivion. The only way I knew to deal with stress at the time ... food.

At 300 pounds, I started my weight loss journey. I lost the weight. Goal ... 150 pounds! A new woman! Truly, and I don't mean to make light of that or make it seem like it was nothing. It was a journey that I took daily, one step at a time and it was not hard ... it wasn't because I didn't take it all at once. Just day by day.

I've been back to the weight loss journey a few times since reaching my goal weight. I've gained as much as 40 pounds three times. When I've not managed stress in my life, I've turned to food. This year, my thyroid failed and I regained the 40 pounds again. I've come to Spark again ... where I find support and can offer support. I'm thankful that I stop myself at 40 pounds gained. I have learned some things! I am stronger than I was! And I'll learn more this time around!

Thank you, each and every SparkFriend, for sharing this journey with me and helping me to figure out how to make my journey better.

Oh and I forgot to tell you, there's this Christian Zumba group from Texas that has videos on youtube, and dvd's. They came to iowa last year and I had signed up to take a master class, however unexpectedly mom went to the hospital for the last time that week so I couldn't make it. Anyway I always hoped they'd come back, not only are they coming back they are coming to ME! They will be here in Minneapolis in Oct for master classes and instructor training. I bit the bullet and paid the hefty fee to do both the instructor training and the master class. So excited. Not sure what i will do after that, I may use it to start a ministry at a church if they are open to it. I think it would be a perfect ministry for moms and daughters or just teens in general to get them moving. The troupe creates routines to Christian music mostly, but they do include some secular clean songs. That's the one thing that bothers me when I go to Zumba class, all the songs with rap and hip hop and not good lyrics.

I'm glad you learned alot from the Daniel Plan. I was skimming part of the detox portion of the book where one of the doctors was talking about trying to add things back after awhile to find out if you are intolerant. I dont think I am but you never know. I have read the book Wheat Belly even before my doctor recommended it, and it seems that wheat and the gluten can contribute to alot of problems including high cholesterol and elevated blood sugar. As a diabetic on cholesterol meds for prevention measures only, it might be good for me to be off wheat and gluten permanently esp if i can get off these meds.

It sounds like you've found what works for you in the food part. I was born and raised in Iowa and South Dakota so I like my meat! LOL But in moderation, eating more veggies, fruits, and healthy fats(love avocado) these days. When I do that it helps keep my blood sugars in check without having to take alot more insulin.

Hi, Cathy. So are you still doing the Daniel Plan food plan? If so, how do you like it? I've been thinking about starting that, with a few adjustments. Maybe first step cutting out wheat and doing it in stages. Right now for breakfast I drink Shakeology, and it really helps with the sugar cravings even though it has a little bit of coconut sugar in it. But I have cancelled autoship on that beacuse it's too expensive and I found a similar recipe that gives me the flavor of Shakeology with more protein and no sugar. I've got about a month supply left of Shakeology and then I'll be done with it. I just know for me sometimes it's better to do things in stages than cutting everything out at once. I know someone at work is eating Paleo, similar concept-whole foods but no grains or dairy. She said it wasn't as hard as she thought it would be at first. For me and my religious beliefs I prob wouldn't do that completely with some of the weird meats that you are able to eat on that. I keep up with a Christian doctor on fb that does something similar to Paleo-gluten free, minimal grains, but will allow dairy but it has to be raw organic. Giving up nonfat greek yogurt with my berries would be hard, it's become my sweet treat. BUt maybe after doing that detox for the Daneil plan I could add it back in and see how I feel, if I notice some symptoms, then I'd be more motivated to not eat it.
