THREE YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG!

I love this informative website - it's so full of many good tips & tools on how to eat healthy and exercise. I hope to be with it for years to come, even after I reach my goal weight.
I have learned so many things and have lost 43 pounds and 52 inches since joining! Have met so many special supportive friends from all over the world here too. I have tracked my food daily since the beginning and exercise everyday and have went from walking a few blocks to 4 1/2 miles in one day! Recently purchased a Fitbit Flex and that really helps me keep going with my daily step goals!!
Although I have hit a few plateaus off and on, I will never give up! I don't want to destroy all the progress I have made by giving in to food temptations, just because I have a bad day, week or year!
Thanks to all the support of my sparkfriends, I feel I can keep going day after day with their help! I truly feel I have hope for the future! And I am here to support them too!

My back story is that I was the correct weight range all through my school age years. When I got married in 1974, I gained 17 pounds in the first 6 months, because I wanted to eat all the desserts and junk food my Mom would never allow us to have. Now I am glad she did or I would have been obese long before that, I'm sure!
I never stopped gaining weight after that - stress eating & binge eating helped add to those pounds & the scale kept creeping up! Add lots of fast food, because too busy or tired to cook after working all day and driving 2 hours round trip to and from work in those days.
Now I reach for fruit and vegetables instead of junk food! It took awhile, but I am so proud of myself -it is a miracle I can do that! Still have a ways to go, but I am hanging in there!

Thanks for stopping by my page........ Connie

My Goals:
My goals for 2014:

1) Continue riding my bike, although had to stop since having back problems early in the year. Still
Currently working on finishing the 46 mile Withlacoochee State trail on my bike- only 6 more miles to go as of 8/23/13!

2) Cook more at home= eat out less
(which will help with less sodium in my foods & staying more within my calorie & fat ranges)

3) More control over my sweet tooth! Always a work in progress!

4) Slowly have been getting back to using weights in my exercise. Due to my bike accident last year and injuring my arm-had to stop for 6 months. Up to 2# as of 3/2014

As of 1/1/15: Want to at least get to Onederland! A girl can dream! It has been slow going, with 3 injuries in one year, but I won't give up!
REWARD: Nice Vacation somewhere

My Program:
SP & my Spark Friends are my motivators and helps me keep track of calories and exercise.

Due to bad knees-I incorporate chair exercises into my routine at least 4x a week

3x a week ST with weights or resistance bands

Walk 3-4 x a week, at least 10 miles a week.

Other Information:
Love being with my DH of 39 1/2 years-we do everything together-we are best friends! We enjoy sunsets, the ocean, walking on the beach, or any trails! Both are very much into photography!

Hope your headache is better today and your feeling good. Thanks for the encouragement on my feeds. I want to find an apartment and move out of my son's house because I've never stayed with any of my kids or depended on anyone this long. It's been since Dec 3 when I got out of the hospital and it's time for move out since I'm doing better than I was. In a different state but I like it here. Anyway, things will work out in the right time I guess. Have a great day!

Thanks for the goodie. Watermelon is one fruit I really like, unfortunately it's one of the ones that's a no-no for diabetics - way too much sugar - so I don't get it very often. I know exactly how you feel about your husband and his apparent disregard for his own health. My first husband was diabetic (type 2) and totally ignored it most of the time. His favorite foods were french fries and pizza. When he died he was 48, blind, impotent and had been bedridden for over 2 years - it finally caught up with him. He used to say, "No one is going to tell me how to live my life, everyone dies sometime." What he didn't realize is that it's not the dying that's the problem, it's what you and your family goes through before you get there. It's really frustrating but you can't force someone to eat better and exercise more, it's a decision they have to make on their own. I really hope your husband realizes that soon.
I have arthritis in both my knees and do "Just Dance" only with modifications. I'm sure what I'm doing doesn't look at all like what anyone would call dancing but I just make sure I'm moving something in time with the music so it's still a good workout. Go to YouTube and type in "Just Dance," you can find a lot of the songs that have been recorded there and you can dance along in front of your computer, you really don't have to buy the game and you can pick songs you like. I did that for awhile before I decided to buy the game. If you can afford it the game I'd recommend the most though is WiiFit Plus. I've had mine for several years now and still use it regularly. Even with arthritis there are a lot of things I can do without a problem and a few more I can do with slight modifications, I only avoid some of the more extreme strength training ones.

Just got onto computer (midnite) it was Jim's B'day Wed. so we pllayed all day. Didn't get pictures but should have. Went to Jerome, a fun old mining town turned touristy place where we go up and have lunch at a place called the Asylum- it used to be a hospital but now it's a hotel with this great restaurant. Jerome is at the top of a very long and windy mountain drive and then the hotel is on top of yet another hill so the views are spectacular.

Was such a nice surprise to see all of your nice comments on my spark page pics. Thanks for taking the time and stopping by. You are too sweet!

In answer to your questions- Port St. Lucie, Fla. Their kids have lived there half time for over 25 years (kids are our age in early 60's) the other half year (summers) are at their lake place in Minnesota. They used to live in the area themselves and have gone back many times so they know the area well. We'll be visiting next April (a year from now) are you anywhere in the area?

Re Grand Canyon- yes many times. Took the train once that was fun. Every time we have company we go again LOL. It's just a few hours from here. Sedona is just a few hours from here as well, and then a few hours south of us is Phoenix, Scottsdale, and other areas warm in winter. (hence the winter rental for a month) We're cooler up here at 5,000 ft. We're in a sweet spot for day trips either summer or winter so that's nice. Many people come here to retire but we retired and are leaving LOL. Just no salt water here- go figure! What a desert! haha. We like NC a lot when we visit the kids. We're all from the Seattle area but 2 kids transplanted to NC, just a funny twist of fate for both and at different times. (they're a few hours apart)

So what have you guys been up to? You'll have to fill me in sometime! Take care and stay well. HUGS. ~Sandi

emoticon So glad you stopped by, boy, it warmed up and computer trouble for me, think I need a new router too, so tired of this.
I have been outside mostly, just beautiful here with everything in bloom, see my roses on my background, just beautiful, I did bring some in, Patty follows me from, spot to spot.
I got out for a bike ride this morning, seemed to be trucks all over, don't like that.
Great earth day, I looked at all the oaks Glen planted from acorns, was mad he grew so many, than I had to find spots for them, you know they really are pretty.
Glen loves Oaks.
Glad to see you back Connie emoticon emoticon emoticon
