This is My Last Year of Weight Loss

For as long as I can remember, every new year (since I was a teenager) has been about weight loss for me. These last four years on Spark People (not exaggerating) I have gained and lost the same 10 lbs. I really don't mind being a work in progress, its how we evolve, but I'd like to move on to other things now.

I tend to be an all or nothing kind of person. I'm either in or out. Period. I never do well in those grey areas. Probably a good area of development for me.(Ha, maybe next ...

Probably a good area of development for me.(Ha, maybe next year?)
I think because of this I would set expectations for me that were very lofty, not sustainable over the long term. I would kill myself in the gym for a few weeks, get results, burn out, skip the gym, gain back, repeat the cycle. (With the occasional binge to boot!).

This year (2013) I've decided to try something different for achieving my weight loss goal once and for all.
SLOW and STEADY without the biggest loser type 2 hour, don't stop til I drop type, soaked in sweat workouts. (maybe once in a while just for the adrenaline kick)

I want this year to be the LAST year for weight loss. Next year I want it to be about maintenance, strength, endurance, technique and helping others realize their potential.

I did not create an endless list of goals like the old days (thanks to nerdfitness.com for the reality check).
I'm committing to a few good ones that I can do and check off my list once and for all.
Here they are in no particular order:

GOAL: Lose 40lbs . Its a 1lb a wk. That's NOT a lot to ask of my body or my spirit.
WHEN: By Dec 31, 2013
HOW:
a) By fueling my body with the correct balance of real food. (I don't have an issue with the quality of food)

b) I will be more mindful of the quantity(possibly my true issue). I will track daily on SparkPeople.

c) Move more every day in some manner.
I will circuit train 3x per wk. Walk my dog every day, take the stairs at work. I joined a challenge on a SP thread that should help as well.

d) Weekly weigh in to measure that I am on track with this goal. I will also be tracking my Body Fat%, and BP.

GOAL: Get certified as a personal trainer with the American Council on Exercise (A.C.E)
WHEN: Start in mid-late Feb.
HOW: I am having knee replacement surgery and will use my recovery time to study.

GOAL: Volunteer work
WHEN: A few hours each Quarter
HOW: I will sign up at volunteermatch.com via my office.
I work for a wonderful (giant) corporation in Las Vegas who is very community oriented and encourages its employees to give back to the community. I want to be more involved in these activities.

GOAL: Drink 2 liters of water daily. That's 8 cups. Not too much ask of myself :)

GOAL: Do ONE thing that scares the @#$! out of me.
WHEN: By November 30, 2013
WHY?: I need the challenge. I can promise you with 100% certainty, it will not involve a parachute and a plane. I do not like heights its why I'm 5'3-lol. I will figure this one out in more detail as time goes on and whatever I decide to do I will write a blog about it.

Of course my head is swimming with many more things and goals I want to do this year. I just need to remind myself to keep it simple and focus on these few things.

I've learned SO much on Sparkpeople and have met the BEST people here!
I cant believe how lucky I was to find this resource.
I appreciate all of my friends here that encourage and inspire me every single day.

My Program:
My food "program" is based on whole, natural un-processed foods. I prefer, and my body responds positively to a lower carb, protein based diet. My spiritual "program" is based on quiet time for myself, meditation, postive thoughts and affirmations and my willingness to continue learning how to be a better human being.

How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.
