New year, new hopes!

Hi friend,

Glad you came to visit my page :)

I have been through many cycles of loss and gain, the same old 20-30lbs always!! This time I have a new doctor to help me, who actually sat down with me for hours to know my history and then figure out an action plan. I hope I can manage my thyroid issues better with her help.

For some reason I have become very pesimistic about this whole weight loss thing. I feel, as usual I will slog out and get few pounds ...
Hi friend,

For some reason I have become very pesimistic about this whole weight loss thing. I feel, as usual I will slog out and get few pounds down only to again it all back again...its depressing, even more when I see people here losing weight so easily!

Got a fitbit flex for my birthday, according to that I'm pretty active (without any added workouts). I eat very healthy. I guess I haven't found the missing piece of puzzle just yet.

I appreciate any advice on staying positive. Thanks! :)

Update: 1/08/2013

A Happy New Year to all!

Its exactly one year since I joined back on Sparkpeople after creating a new id. In first nine months I lost close to 30 lbs and then in 3 months I gained about 20 lbs back.

I can't say I am happy about all the pounds I gained back but some how I feel happy that I figured out what was going on with me every winter all these years! Who would have thought of vitamin D deficiency! Come the colder months my weight shot up like a rocket without any change in my eating habits! Along with that came the alarming hair fall, muscle spasms, awful tiredness. I thought I was going to die!!

Finally after taking vit D3, I'm slowly getting better, weight is coming off slowly. Hair fall is not so much any more. I still have muscle cramps but I don't have to be afraid of laughing anymore!

Now looking back its only during winter I have gained weight! It took me a long time to connect the dots!

So that is it friends... Another new beginning..

I initially joined SparkPeople back in 2006! From there it was always ups and downs. After having our 2nd baby(who is 2 now) I'm back once again, hopefully for good!

I have a long way to go, but setting a goal of 50lbs for this year. Last month we got an elliptical so I'm back on track. Need all the motivation!

My aim is to get rid of 50% of my current body weight.

hey girl!
Got my tests back, net result is I have to start taking more salt and that my fasting insulin is out of range low, which points to LADA rather than type2, which does not surprise me. UGH!

I also noticed that I am able to eat a lot more carbs in the evening than I do in the middle of the day or morning, so I'm in the process of switching my protein heavy meal from evening to lunch and breakfast.

Somehow a chicken leg first thing in the morning, doesn't excite me. ha

Anyways the good news is that I orders some Tulsi Basil a while ago, planted it and its thriving. But here's my question, since you are familiar with it and I am only familiar with it as a TEA... big difference between fresh and dried!

The leaves are not as pungent as Italian basil, they are smaller and not as spicy. The stems have a light fuzz on them.

Does that sound like the real deal, or was I duped?
In any case its growing great, very happy for that!

Hope you're enjoying the summer, its officially TOO HOT here in Texas and things are drying up.

: )

Hi MzzCharm!

YES! I have done that trick with the amla fruit, everything tastes sweeter after you have a bite! Isn't it amazing! I think its that the tongue just wants the astringent flavor out of the mouth so bad, that just about anything tastes sweeter! ha

Found a fasting insulin test, just got back from the lab which drew my blood. Unfortunately, I didn't get to sleep until about 4:30am last nite. Had to sleep until 10:30, which is better than nothing but did spoil my plans for the day. Guess that means I'll be out in my garden... hahaha

You mentioned iodine in your last note. If you have autoimmune thyroid disease, you have to be very careful with it. It can flare your TPO autoantibodies, which causes problems. If you take it with selenium, that blunts the effect, but too much selenium has also been shown to increase the incidence of Type 2 diabetes.

You might consider doing without the iodine and selenium and retest in a couple of months to see if your fasting insulin has changed?

Here's two links:
iodine and Hashimotos:

Selenium and Type 2:

the key to all this, is the right amount... we do need both, just not in excess!
