Retired Prof.

I retired from academia in 2005 and have enjoyed myself ever since: traveling abroad with my wife, following pro and college sports (esp. MLB and NCAA hoops), playing in two rotisserie fantasy baseball leagues each season, visiting friends and family, enjoying folk music both live and recorded, reading contemporary fiction, teaching non-credit adult education courses, and regular exercising.

My Goals:
I've been exercising for the last five years or so after retirement, first on my own at the local YMCA, then with the help of a personal trainer at the WIU student recreation center. The results so far have been reasonably good, as I've lost over 60 lbs. and have generally gotten in better shape. I'd still like to lose another 10 lbs. or so of "love handles" and belly fat, and want to improve my balance and flexibility.

My Program:
A friend and I work out with weights together usually three times a week, twice with a personal trainer and once on our own. Usually I do my own cardio work (power walking/jogging on an indoor track, elliptical machine) on the days in between, and take a day of rest to complete the week.

Personal Information:
Raised in California, went to high school and college there (U. of Redlands) and earned a doctorate in English at the U. of Maryland. Worked at colleges & universities in N.C., Texas, and Illinois. Spent a year as a Fullbright professor in Mexico. Retired in 2005 and reside in the Midwest.
