Ready to start the 5% Fall Challenge

Today (9/20/14) a new Fall Challenge has begun. I joined the Starfish Team again. I prepared by watching my sweets these past couple of weeks, ate lots of fruit and vegetables, reduced my carb intake, and feel, overall, in great spirits and shape. To make it even more special, I had made contact with another SP member, who lives practically in my neighborhood, and who, as I found out, also had joined the 5% challenge, although a competing team. Today (9/20/14) a new Fall Challenge has begun. I joined the Starfish Team again. I prepared by watching my sweets these past couple of weeks, ate lots of fruit and vegetables, reduced my carb intake, and feel, overall, in great spirits and shape. To make it even more special, I had made contact with another SP member, who lives practically in my neighborhood, and who, as I found out, also had joined the 5% challenge, although a competing team. What amazed me is that she has three members on her team, who I had met in person, two of which, along with myself, belonged to a different team, altogether, for several years. We met over coffee, then took a long walk, going uphill most of the time. A great kick-off for a new challenge.

What this challenge will bring, I don't know yet. I have never reached the 5% loss in the past, although I have come close, once or twice. One thing that I am sure of is the fact that it keeps me exercising and watching what I eat. During this first week, we are counting our water intake, besides our exercise minutes.

I am happy to welcome my friend Nancy to our team.

Thank you to all the Leaders who were willing to take on the overwhelming job of setting up the teams and continue to watch over us.

My Program:
Continue to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Eat protein 2 - 3 times a day, and work on drinking more water. Work out, almost daily, but no less than 5 days a week.

Personal Information:
I was born and grew up in Germany. Curiosity prompted a visit to the US and I never left. I am married to the love of my life. We have two sons and four grand daughters. In Aug. 2011, I celebrated 50 years in the US. Hard to believe. I had total hip replacement surgery in July 2010. I love walking, skiing, golfing, swimming, and, out of necessity, strength training, to stay as active as I can.

Marlis- I think you are right that my arthritis flare had something to do with change in weather. Rain started today. Sometimes, I feel like a barometer! emoticon I am glad the rain is helping to squelch those awful fires.

How nice to be able to get in such a long walk with a Spark friend. Wow! 90 minutes! I would need a nap. emoticon

Yes, this week will be better for both of us than last week. I am working on both my attitude and perspective. emoticon Have a good, healthy week!

I'll come to your house. I don't have anything going yet on Saturday and would love to do the big walk. Do you want to make it 8:00 again? Now that it's cooling off we don't have to get out quite as early, but 8:00 is fine with me. emoticon

Hi Marlis,

My week is good for another walk. I would say any day but Friday or Monday as I go to the gym for 2 hour long classes on those days. Saturday would be good again if it's good for you. emoticon
