I am a forty something grandma. I am busy with family, work and my religious community. I homeschooled all four of my kiddos and now that my youngest is almost ready for college I wonder what it will be like NOT to homeschool after 20+ years. I love to walk, hike and garden. I also am an avid knitter and almost always have a couple projects on the needles. I've gained and lost this same weight many times over the years. I hope this time I can not only lose it but keep it off.

My Goals:
I want to get to a healthy BMI and maintain it. I want to be more fit and healthy. I want to get outside more and move my body more. I want to enjoy active time with my kids and grandson.

My college age son and I have set a goal of 50 hikes between April 2013 and April 2014. We also want to track miles walked on our frequent walks as well as hikes by Frodo and Sam's walk from the Shire to Mordor. can we walk as far as a hobbit? We will see!

I've started the c25k program with my daughter and am enjoying it so far. I'm not sure I will ever run a 5k but I've wanted to do this for years, so here goes!

I got a new hula hoop and I am determined to learn to hoop. I figure if I keep at it and practice often I should be able to accomplish this

My Program:
I am trying to focus on healthy eating and lots of fun movement. I'm tired of too strict diets and the obsession with the scale.

Personal Information:
I live outside of Binghamton NY.

Holding you in the light as well, as you get your prayer life back on track and dig for the deep answers on your journey toward living a healthy life. "Love others as you love yourself" reminds me that I have to know how to love myself. Love, being an action word, means I have to ACT on loving myself too. That means treating myself like I would a best friend, or someone we love very much. We would encourage a loved one that needs to be healthy to move more and even cook healthy for them, but why not ourselves then? This is part of the journey I am learning, for self-sacrifice as love is something that was ingrained in me at an early age through church and family. No where have I read that it helps others to self-neglect or self-abuse ourselves. Love. Love is key. It's almost too simple for us to accept. Love others, love ourselves, but love Him most of all. We have to get the foundation right first for the house to stand.
(((hugs))) and peace to you!!!

It sounds like you and hubby have a great deal between the gardening and cooking. Unfortunately, it's the other way around for us. I prefer to garden and hate to cook, while he doesn't mind to cook as long as I tell him WHAT to cook. lol. We make it work somehow, most days.

You're so right, having the attitude that it's "just hair" is the only way to be. It certainly does relieve a lot of useless stress. I consider it a point of creativity too, and have even considered letting my hair turn into dreadlocks. Just haven't been that brave in case they mess up then I would have to chop them off - I don't like my hair to be short. I'm a bit bohemian in nature, much to the confusion of most of our relatives. lol.
