Hi! I am a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, RN on disability for many years, former manager and nurse recruiter in human resourses at a local medical center, but have used my skills a lot with my very disabled grandson, my husband who just received a kidney transplant, and on myself. Yes, I do believe that stress plays a part in weight loss/gain in several ways. It can psychologically if we are emotional eaters - in that we eat when we are stressed out or if we feel stress we reach for food instead of talking, smoking, walking (exercising), drugging, drinking (alcohol), shopping, playing video games, gambling, etc, etc. Notice I had healthy and unhealthy choices! Stress can also have a physical effect on our body in losing/gaining weight by alerting our fight/fight response and releasing all sorts of chemicals/ hormones/ that can make us gain weight much more often than lose it, unfortunately. It is much to complicated to go into here - but I can look for a good website to explain it or try to cobble one up myself if you are interested in one.

For example, if you are a "Type A" person, like excitement, like to be very active, like to respond to emergencies or quick /high energy situations which require intelligent, correct, and immediate answers and work, you probably will lose weight and remain fairly thin (unless you really overeat and don't exercise. I was like this for years and years! However, when I became physically disabled, wasn't in those situations anymore, continued to eat what I wanted to, was unable to keep up that pace like I used to, unable to exercise like I needed to, was under consideral more stress than I was before, I gained weight. It wasn't the stress alone, but in combination with other factors. But the stress certainly contributed!!

Just my thoughts! Take what you like and leave the rest!

Hi! I am back at SP after quitting for the same reason...the scale wasn't saying what I wanted it to say...I worked on my diet, exercise, the works and I maybe lost a little...I wanted the weight to melt off and it didn't, so I quit. I am back because I am older, wiser, maybe, but I do know that I have to be consistent and patient...I want to lose 50 pounds NOW, but I hope to lose 50 pounds by March 2011, a goal I now know that I can reach because ot the support of SP. Stay with it! It'll be worth it in the long haul. emoticon

I'm not sure what your fitness routine is but maybe you need to up it a bit because if you have a sit down type of job its harder to get your metabolism pumped up. And give yourself a break you have only been doing this for a week right? It took longer than a week to put the pounds on. As for the scale, well they lie I can swear to that one. Also depending on the time of day you eat and when you weigh in you could get a different reading on the same scale. Don't lose hope. I almost did and now I'm almost down 12 pounds in about a months time. My clothes are starting to get loose and I am finally wearing a smile. Keep at it! You will do fine! emoticon
