I joined SparkPeople in August 2007 with a goal of losing 30 lbs. Spark originally set my goal date for the whole 30 lbs for March 2008. I didn't quite make it. However, after a little more than 2 years - I made it! Goal met.
After a couple of moves, I've gained weight back, which is super frustrating. What worked once isn't working now. I'm ready to commit again, with a new plan, that still involves tracking food and exercise, but as of now, not on SP. I don't login everyday because I need time away from the computer and while I love SP and the tools, the app isn't super great. So, I am still tracking, just not on SP. I found SP incredibly helpful not only in losing weight but in keeping it off for almost seven years. But, age and stress take their toll. So, I'm taking a break from SP. I may be back, but for now, I need something a little more streamlined and less time consuming. Thanks for reading.
Below the milestones are dates and losses, which will show slow but steady. I've managed to do this without really denying myself (and while embracing the picky eater in me), but it has taken time. Of note, though, is that over the two years, there is only one incident of gaining weight. That's where the below countdown picks up - my re-dedication so to speak to SP and tracking my food.
Milestones & other dates of note:
12/12/15 - lots of weight back. Using a different tool and preparing to start a whole new approach come the new year (I know starting this close the holidays would not be a good idea). Once I'm on an even keel, I may be back, but right what brought success in the past is not now.
7/17/11 - up almost 9 pounds and now 9 pounds from goal! Ackkkkk!!!!! I know that the motivation hasn't been there and I'm working on getting my act back together.
11/22/09 - 1.6 pounds lost! Goal met and then some!
8/23/09 - 1.4 pounds from goal of losing 30 pounds - 28.6 pounds lost
6/14/09 - have now lost the five pounds I gained and a tad extra. 3.2 pounds to goal.
3/31/09 - oops. Small set-back. I've gained five pounds. Better five than 30, though... so I get back on track.
1/4/09 - uploaded more photos.
10/18/08 - uploaded new photos. Wearing a turtleneck so it's hard to see the weight loss... but it's there! :)
09/21/08 - I've moved! All the boxes are finally unpacked and after a month, I'm starting to get back into an exercise routine. It's a lot different than what I've done in the past, but I keep telling myself change is good. I've not gotten on the scales, but clothes are still too big, so I figure if I have gained weight back, it isn't too much. :)
6/8/08 - I've passed 25 lbs by 1 lb for a loss of 26 lbs.
6/1/08 - I'm almost to the 25 lb mark. Almost. A little disappointed, but at least it's not 25 lbs higher! :) I've reduced how often I weigh myself in favor of how my clothes fit (a lot don't anymore) and how I feel about myself. I didn't make my goal, but that's okay... I'll just extend the date and keep slowly plugging along.
2/17/08 - I've finally passed the 20 lb mark! Woo hoo!
2/16/08 - ordered the revised edition of Potatoes Not Prozac. Hopefully this will help get me back on track to eliminating sugars. The first edition did wonders for me.
12/23/07 - I'm a little over halfway to goal.
Weight benchmarks - starting with the 5 lbs gained for a total of a little over 8 pounds to goal:
12/17/11 - up almost 9 pounds! Slip sliding... but trying to focus on getting back on track.
11/22 - down 1.6 pounds! Goal exceeded by 1.2 pounds!
10/11 - down .8 pounds - .4 pounds to goal!
9/27 - down 1.2 pounds (whew!)
9/20 - up 1.4 pounds (ack!)
8/22 - down 1.2 pounds
8/2 - (conference in July no weigh ins) down .6 pounds
6/21 - no change
6/14 - down .8 pounds
5/31 - down .2 pounds (included a short vacation)
5/17 - down 1.2 pounds
5/10 - down . 8 pounds
4/26 - no change
4/19 - down .6 pounds
4/12 - down 1.4 pounds
4/5 - down .6 pounds
3/29/09 - starting with a 5 pound gain and headed toward goal of 30 pounds (about 8 pounds remaining at this point).
My primary goal is to lose 30 pounds. In the process I'd like to develop better eating habits (including reducing the number of sodas I drink) and stop the stress eating.
Strength training - 4x week (alternating legs & arms)
Exercise: 30 minutes of something 6 times per week
Cardio - 4x week
Yoga - 2x week (building up to one of these being a 60 minute session)
Fitness goals: increased stamina and flexiblity; toning
Take my vitamins:
Vitamin B6 & B12
Glucosamine (not a vitamin, but it helps my joints)
I'm also, of course, tracking what I eat and trying to learn from it.
I'm single and am owned by one cat (pictured).
I love to bake and am trying to become more of a cook, with mixed success.
I'm very sugar sensitive and am trying to incorporate more protein in my diet and to eliminate the majority of refined sugars. Moderately successful with this, but all good things take time.
I'm not overly fond of vegetables, but am trying to eat more of them or at least more of the ones I do like.
I love to read and read mostly mysteries with a few other books tossed in. I'm on Goodreads at:

My all time favorite detective is Sherlock Holmes. My all time favorite book is Jane Eyre. While I love to read, I'm trying to de-clutter, so I'm a huge fan of libraries.
I rarely go to or watch movies, but I do have a few TV shows I like. I got my first DVD player (about 3 years ago) so I could expand my Yoga exercise videos to DVD's, but have now also gotten a couple of boxed TV DVD sets. My favorite channel at this point is probably HGTV.
