2012 Complete paradigm shift - LOVING carbs!

2011: Had a (mostly) totally CRAP year! Got injured, got sick, got fat...AGAIN! Reached rock bottom during June/July 2011. Things took a drastic turn when I was lucky enough to see "The Last Heart Attack" on CNN! It spoke directly to my soul and got me to start thinking about a better way...A better way in more ways than one, ie becoming a vegan.

I "converted" to veganism in November 2011, and then discovered McDougall. Started following the McDougall way of eating from December ...

I "converted" to veganism in November 2011, and then discovered McDougall. Started following the McDougall way of eating from December 2011. It has completely changed my life and the way I think about food - I LOVE IT!!!!

So no more weighing, tracking and obsessing about everything I eat!!!!
I am loving all the benefits of McDougalling: tons of food (lots of starch!), having more energy, no more aches and pains and clearer skin, and of course disease-proofing my body as much as possible.
Oh, and my fat is melting away too!
Looking forward to what this year will bring....

I joined SP on the 21st of June 2009. At that point I was obese, and unhealthy. I had been suffering from chronic bouts of bronchitis that had left me bedridden for 8 weeks out of the year.
I was thoroughly sick of being sick and tired.

When I signed up with SparkPeople I had almost 46 pounds to lose, and my goal to lose it by was Christmas Day.
Impossible? Unrealistic? Unachievable?
Not at all!I did it!!!!
I stayed on track all the way, and consistently lost a minimum of 6.6 pounds every month. Every month I become a bit fitter, stronger and healthier.
By Christmas Day 2009 I had successfully tracked my weight and achieved my goal weight of 65 kilograms (143 pounds).
I lost over 46 pounds, and went from a UK size 16 to a UK size 10 in 6 months.

This was truly the best Christmas present I could have ever given myself - a gift of improved health, fitness and self esteem, and not to mention the better looking body!

If I can do it, then so can you.....

2010 : This year I plan to lose a few more kilograms (the last flab has got to go!), firm up and run faster.... I reset my tracker on the 1st of January 2010.

Just DO IT!!! Come and challenge yourself with our team! teams.sparkpeople.com/justdoit

(July 2009)
My story:
Comrades Marathon - Couch to 89 Ks (55 miles) in a year...
9 years ago I was sitting on the couch and watching an ultra long distance race being broadcast live on TV. Completely and utterly inspired, I announced to my husband that the following year I was going to do it...I was going to run and finish the Comrades Marathon!

I started training the very next week, and could then just manage walking around the block. Slowly I started jog/walking - jogging from street light pole to pole and walking two pole distances to recover!
I was doggedly determined that I could and I would do it! Over the months my fitness increased, my excess weight was lost (30 plus pounds) and I started running organised "races". The running bug had bitten!
First came the 5 K, the 10 K races and then the 21.1s, followed by a few marathons and then 2 ultra marathons (56Ks) - all training for the BIG ONE, the Comrades Marathon - my big dream!
In a year's time I completed the next Comrades Marathon "up run" from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in 11 hours and 40 minutes! I DID IT!

I have done a fair amount of running since then, but my "athletic career" has been interrupted by starting a family, exhaustion and chronic illness.

This year I would love to get healthy, lose weight and start running properly again!
I am not aiming to do ultra distances again, I just want to be happy in my skin and enjoy my running. ACHIEVABLE? YES!!!!!
I CAN DO IT!

Hi Sam,
Got back to UK, settled.
Gained back everything in the last two years,
I'm back since February.
not logging my food but eat well.
And currently no running or but
I still swim. All of us.
Big boys even compete, they swim 7 hours a week.
I'm doing body pump, it's strength training in an exercise class to music.
I tried the gym but lost motivation although had great results.
I just don't enjoyed it. Fortunately body pump seems to work.
Hubby did several marathon, triathlon and even an Ironman.
He never did any sport before... He learned to swim from me.
I'm not all happy about it as he stole it from me, really.
I let him to joined the triathlon club a year before his race,
But he won't let me back. He already booked next years ironman
Which means I can't go back for a couple of years at least, which is not nice from him. We can't go both because of the kids.
That's why I started body pump and Zumba.
I think I work out enough without triathlon
For losing weight it's more about clean eating.
If I eat my planned vegs during the day I'm ok.
I still miss triathlon.
also family gives me lot to do and .
how are you doing?

Hey Sam! You have me reading up on veganism. I am planning to see how I can make a good start in this direction.

My 30 K is at the end of March. I plan a couple of half marathons and one full marathon this year. I am very optimistic about 1012. And, we are tentaively planning to make 2014 the year we visit South Africa.

Thay're lovely, aren't they? You can wear them as outwear, or as underwear. I can picture myself swanning around in a long skirt, flimsy blouse and that fabulous corset...... Mmmmmmm

Hi Sam,
that's good. Training for what?
I need a goal race as it seems.
After doing nothing exept sweets eating this last 3 months
I might have a goal in mind.
A half marathon under two hours in March.
Have run very little even first half of this year- because of cycling,
my last run was in July, nothing since then
because I'm quite depressed here...
Over 80kg today. So under 2h is a huge goal.
I'm 38 today. Not very motivated, though.
